Portable welder

This I got from the off roading community, but it is still pretty neat. I can imagine uses around the farm and tractor; only the price makes it hard to justify. Trek 180

Interesting that Hobart has this concept. I've been fascinated by the Zena welder for years. I've never done anything about it, but the concept is interesting to me.

You would really have to have a special need for that, maybe like a Paris to Dakar rally or up in the space shuttle, somewhere you just have no other choice but the smallest compact portable unit.

For that price you could get a pro quality portable stick welder.

Only 2-4 minutes of welding per charge?

You might try just putting "Zena Welder" or "Backpack Welder" into a google search.

I think you would be better off with a small O/A setup. This welder only has a 12% duty cycle, so O/A would even be quicker.

With a 12% duty cycle being able to weld only 7.2 minutes per hour it would be real hard to justify any price. Of course that also leaves 52 minutes per hour to run back to power for recharge. MikeD74T

The 4 x 4 guys love them. If you get the right model, you can MIG weld from batteries or your DC stick welder. 350 Amp MIG that can weld aluminum and SS, penetrates up to 3/4". Biggest negatives are that it is a spool gun (which is a positive for Aluminum) and takes small spools.

I bought a used one but have not used it yet. I plan on using it as my only MIG but we will see.
