Pole Barn Construction Ideas

My wife and I just finished building our home a couple of manths ago here in upstate NY. We are looking to build a large barn one of these years for horses and boarding etc. As a first step (mainly due to cost) we would like to build a small two stall pole barn that we can eventually turn into Hay storage when we build our larger barn in a couple of years.

My questions are about the beginning construction and floor slab. I have a good amount of "weekend warrior" ability and have built a couple small sheds in the past. I have been looking on the net for a page that has some great info but can't find one. Most seem to just want to charge for blueprints. I just need some good info to get going and finish off my plans.

If there is a Menards in your area, they have a free booklet on building pole buildings that is can be very helpful.

Try this site here. They have a lot of different plans for barns, sheds, etc. I hope the link works.

The plan are not complete but give you enough information to build. It seems to be a good site.

I bought a book called Pole Barn Projects. The author is Monte Burch. I built this 24 X 27 pole barn with no previous experience. I also built this log cabin just reading books and applying what little common sense I have. Read, study, understand and then dig in. Don't be ashamed to ask questions, even if they seem trivial to you. There is a wealth of knowledge right here on TBN, and everyone seems more than happy to help.
