John Deere/455
Hi, I have a 1994 John Deere 455. It was running pretty well, until the mower belt broke, then the tractor would not start anymore.
The battery was charged, but when I turned the key, nothing happened. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

My first inclination would be the PTO switch is still on.

Second inclination would be time for a new battery... if the last new one was within 3-4 years.

Work with us, and we'll help get it running again.

The PTO would be my first guess too.

Were there shields in place on the mower when the belt broke? I'm wondering that if there weren't then it's possible the deck belt hit something, though I can think of what it could have hit down in that area.

Thank you all for your help. The PTO is not on. When I turned the key, it didn't turnover, there was no sound like it did before.
When the belt broke, the engine ran hot. That's when I discovered the belt was broken. I drove it back to the garage, turned it off to cool it. And it wouldn't start again :-(

I had a 445 if I recall the model correctly and it seemed there is a fuse that blew on mine a couple times and had the same effects.. Check the fuses.

Check wire connections. It may be coincidental but you may have a loose connection. Check ground wires as well.

I don't think the belt breaking could have caused the engine to overheat. Something else going on here.

Will need to learn more about the cause and effect in order to track down what happened.

Good idea to check the fuses and if the engine is seized up.

When you turn the key do you get any sound at all? Like a click from the starter relay or a sound like the starter drive gear trying to engage the flywheel? If not then you likely have an electrical issue going on first.
