Platform for Washer and Dryer

/ Platform for Washer and Dryer #21
Our house has a very simply built platform made of something like 3/4" plywood, about 14" (I'm guessing - not home right now) of space underneath; the horizontal plywood is supported by 3 plywood verticals (on the sides and one in the middle) with more plywood across the back for shear.
Drawers would take a good amount of that extra space; we don't have a problem having things somewhat visible under the utterly beauteous washer and dryer

It's worked fine for the past 16 years.
Avoiding the 2x stuff will make the space underneath more usable (we keep extra detergent, laundry baskets, etc under them).

odd socks!

Maybe in a few years the other sock would show up? But maybe a good spot for seasonal stuff like hats and gloves? Ours currently sit in a basket on top of the freezer but as I get older I tend to store stuff higher.

When considering height, also consider the space above. Lots of people have a bar running above to hold shirts and other stuff needed a partial air dry. My shirts currently just clear the top of the washer/dryer so I'm hesitant to raise the machines much more.

Also, every time I bend to empty the dryer I think I should raise that thing. But then I think "how much bending do I do in a day" so the occasional stretch while doing laundry is probably a good thing.

I built my frame with 2X4’s and put 3/4 plywood on top. The top of the platform is 17 inches, so the doors are at a comfortable height. No bending over. Plus, all the detergent and softeners fit underneath.

I built my frame from 2x6s and plywood. I put a curb around the edge as a retrofit so the washer would not dance off the side. I found it at the end of its cycle once with one foot off the edge. :hot:

I have a laundromat with a row of 6 soft mount frontloaders much like yours except they are commercial Speed Queens. We use 2x8 PT lumber on 2' centers on 3/4" PT plywood for the base. For home use, you really don't need PT lumber. I used PT because my staff slops water against it every night when they mop. I'd make the base the same size as your washer and run one 2x8 in the center of your box for support. Use a couple of coats of enamel paint to match the room or washer. The 8" gets the door up to a more user friendly height and is the minimum industry standard base height. Don't bust your back getting the washer on the base. If you can get some portable pallet forks in your laundry it makes the job easy.
