I am wanting to plant some millett for dove food plots. It will not run through my grain drill because the seeds are too small. Do they make unit planters that can accomodate it? Looking for a cheap solution. Everything I read talks about air and hydro seeding which are out of the price range for this project.

Deere #71 flex-planter units will plant it with the proper seed plates. (Which are available through Lincoln Ag) Also, does your drill have the small seed attachment? (grass seeder...) If so, you can plant the smallest of seed with that. I've got an 8' small seed attachment I'm trying to sell (For Deere F series drill) Kinda tough UPS'in' something 8' long though.....

I plant millet with an old MF grain drill. You want a lot of seed down, and I have no problems getting the old drill to put out what I want. The small seed attachment would also work, but my drill doesn't have one.
If you can find a couple of old Planet Jr. vegetable planters, they will do a better job than anything else I have found. As suggested, you can also do a good job just broadcasting the seed and lightly discing. I have done this by mixing the seed with the fertilizer when I spread it.
Last year I planted a dove/quail patch with the old MF drill. I filled one side of the drill with grain sorghum and the other side with browntop. Each side of the drill has its own adjustment, and I was pleased with the results. Planting a dove field ain't rocket science, and most any way you can get the seed down will probably turn out good.

This for Dove hunting?
Have buddies in the south who talk about the fun they have putting out seed to attract the Doves in to get some hunting done. Just getting it on the ground is sufficient.

Well guys, I got a two row tye planter and was able to get it to work. I planted 4 acres today. I picked up Hybrid pearl millett and the seed guy said 3lbs per acre in 24" rows. I set the planter as best I could and judging by the seed left over I think I planted more like 6lbs per acre. Anyway the dove should like and the horse should too.
