Looking for some agronomic advice here and opinions. I plant a few acre dove field annually and after the season last year, I drilled some oats and wheat along with rye(due to cheap seed) on half of it, mainly cause the seed was cheap and it gave me some tractor time. Well, now I have to deal with the residue from cutting the grains before I plow and plant the sunflowers. My question is would it be better to burn the residue or just disc it in. It would obviously be easier to burn what I could then disc, but as far as soil health is concerned, which would be more beneficial. Time really isn't a factor as I have a few weeks until the sunflowers go in.

I am not an agronomist, but I used to associate with agronomists before I retired. A good friend, who retired as Extension state soybean specialist for SC, used to have a conniption when he saw stubble being burned. Don't waste the nutrients -- disc the cover in.
