Pinhole leak in hydraulic line on backhoe. There a clamp or sleeve fix?

I wish we could get lines for those prices, a couple of 3/4" 4 footers are over $70 each from the local shops.

yeah to have two hoses made locally for a backhoe thumb paid $440.

I will Mail order next time and wait. or couple up generics from the farm store.

Woods9000 on my L3710. There's a pinhole leak on one of the lines. Its one of the longest lines on the setup too. No idea how the pinhole got there, but its away from all mounting surfaces, bends, couplings, or anything. Right on the "straightaway" on the line. Easy access, right there.

Is there a clamp, sleeve, or something else that would hold up? Sure, I can replace the entire line, but the fact its dead nuts on a straight portion of the line and wide open access, makes me wonder if there is something else that can be done before I rip the whole thing out.

It sucks, but I wouldn't risk it. Value wise, dependability wise and safety wise it's better to suck it up and replace the line. Anything else on a hydraulic line is just to limp home or finish something critical.
My opinion of course.

Just replace the complete hose, if a pinhole has developed the hose is probably getting to the end of its life, hydralic hoses wear out, a patch may fix it until it fails again. Hoses are made for easy replacement, do it once, do it right.

The cheap import hoses I've gotten at Tractor Supply and Surplus Center don't last very long before the covering starts cracking.

My oldest hoses from Surplus Center are about 14 years old now, and are doing just fine.

...hose ends are not meant to be interchangeable, Weatherhead, Parker, whoever, have a specific series of fitting for each spec series hose. And that includes “no skive” reusable hose ends.

It's a shame you couldn't learn something in 50 years of making hoses. The reason Weatherhead, Parker and whoever have specific fittings for specific hose is so anyone that can read a chart and keep their fingers out of the crimper can make hoses. Also, they sell the hose and the fittings. Oh yeah, they also sell the machines. What a racket they have going. I learned to do it in less than a day. All you need is some calipers and a calculator. And if you're making hoses, you should already have the calipers. Choose a hose and a fitting for the type of hose. It's not that complicated. But you do have to know simple math.

If you gotta have something to read, refer to a chart of the types of hoses. If you stock R2 hose and fittings, you can pretty much deal with any equipment you'll find on or near a farm. All the other Rxx hoses are generally specialty hoses. R1 is just cheap. Most of the time, you can't read any writing on old hoses or fittings anyway. R2 hose can cover most needs with a working pressure of nearly 6k psi and a burst strength of 23k+ psi for 1/4" hose. 19k, 16k and 12k psi respectively for 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4" hose.

Hose ? I would use rubber and a clamp simple

How old is the tractor or implement?

Most of what I own is over 25 years old, some quite a bit older. I don't mess around with used hydraulic lines. If it goes bad, it gets replaced.
