I think the corn crib was used to dry corn on the cob and then it was feed for livestock.
Yep. I recall my Grand father, (born in the 1880's)who was raised on a farm in Kansas, showing me his hand, which was scarred, and permanently partially closed, and telling me he got it caught in a corn sheller. He said the doctor laid it flat on a cigar box, and taped it there to heal. he said the reason that the hand would not open completely, is because the box warped!

We used corn crib and stored on the cob.

My old tobacco barn built in late 1930s. The tin roof didn't leak but 10 years ago I had new roof put over top of it. A couple years ago I added shed overhangs on either side thinking that would help hold the barn up plus store mowers, etc.
The tobacco stakes are still there.
There used to be a huge barn built same time other side of house in the pasture. The fellow who bought that parcel in 1975 had it dismantled and lumber delivered to a cabinet maker who planed boards making cabinets for his new home. They were beautiful. He passed, home sold 3 years ago to millennials who had all cabinets ripped out and destroyed.
I would have bought them had I known.

This round barn is about 40 miles south of me. One of these days I will stop - talk to the folks - get pictures of the inside. There are two more round barns - south of me. They aren't as large as this one.

A farmer could save on wood or stone with a round building that needed less material than traditional barns. Experts also believed that farmers could save steps, and time, in feeding their animals in a round barn. And round barns stood a better chance against strong winds.

It's obvious - the folks in my post# 625 are taking very good care of their round barn.

Out with the old

In with the new.

The old one missed the 25 ft long side porch on my new one, by less than 1/8”, when it fell down. If it wasn’t for that old “1883” barn, that my great great granddad built being so close, I’d have made that side porch 50 ft long.
