I think Volfandt meant that you can't fit more than 48" between the wheel wells. It's pretty much common knowledge that full size pickups accomodate 4'x8' building materials lying flat in the bed...but that still wouldn't be enough for a BX with 54" MMM.
Bob

Most pickups nowadays are fleetsides and not stepsides. Therefore, the 48" width limitation is pretty much at the wheelwells. In fact, every pickup that I've ever owned had at least a little bit of room remaining between the wheelwells, probably 3 or 4" after laying the 4' x 8' sheets on the bed. If the tractor were to go in nose first, the mower at 54" will probably clear the sides, which is probably closer to 60" but the tailgate might need to remain down to clear. I wouldn't suggest anything less than a 1 ton truck for this endeavor. Obviously, a trailer will make loading and unloading infinitely easier, but driving 800 miles (with stops in between) will be much easier without a trailer, which greatly reduces the number of places you can stop at and find adequate parking.

I'm buying a BX2230 w/mmm+bagger, no FEL and was wondering how best to transport it. I don't have a truck but I can rent one. Is there a pickup large enough to carry it? Or should I be looking at something else. I'll probably rent it. Distance is 800mi roundtrip. Thx
Why so you need to haul it 800 Mi.?

A BX with no fel or hoe is almost a lawn tractor, How much can it weigh. Not only that if he is just trying to get it home just take the mmm off and tuck it in beside it and it would be fine in a 1/2 ton pickup with an 8 foot bed

Ok it is 78 inches long and weighs less than 1,300 pounds not including the mower deck so it is less than 7 feet long and it is 45 inches wide so it will roll between the wheel wells. Then you can scoot it over to 1 side. you could even use a 6 foot bed with the gate down

To exceed 48" between inner wheelwells has always been THE benchmark for fullsize p/up trucks in the US. The problem you will prob encounter will be the mounted MMM. I usually have a hard time getting a large riding mower in without contact with the wheelwells versus deck. The distance form the frontmost part of the tractor; counterweight mount, bumper, grille guard, of front of the actual tire if tractor doesn't have a setback axle to the centerline of the rear axle will tell if the tractor will fit. Does not matter if 3 pt hitch arms ect extend behind the truck as long as centerline of rear tire rests on the bed. Don't trust the tailgate for transport and don't trust it much for loading as many have been bent from the loads imposed by 4 wheelers and even large street bikes, not to mention that most t/gates now use cables versus flat plate straps. lots of late model t/gate cables hide inner rust/corrosion and can snap without warning. Also some of the tie downs points supplied with p/up's are a joke. This is a smaller tractor so perhaps everything will be OK, just use common sense and be carefull of other traffic etc.

I've got a Power Kraft Lawn Tractor a CC GT2554 Garden Tractor & a BX23 Sub Cut.
So I can tell there is a Vast Difference between each of the 3 types of tractors.
A B X is not in the same class / league as a lawn or even a garden tractor.

If you removed the discharge chute on the MMM it might just fit.

In 2003 I bought a new BX1500 with loader, MMM, and bagger attachment. I got everything but the bagger in the back of a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup. I had to come back for the bagger attachment. I raised the loader bucket up high and had the Kubota dealer pick up the tractor with a forklift and set it in the pickup bed with the loader bucket over the truck cab. I had to strap the back of the tractor down to the trailer hitch because the loader almost came down and hit the truck roof when hitting the pickups brakes. I got some interesting looks from those at the dealership when I was loaded up and heading home with my new tractor.

The tractor according to kubota weighs in at about 1300 pounds, plus the weight of the mower deck and bagger. You might want to look at shipping to see how much it would cost you to ship it. If you have to rent a vehicle plus pay for fuel and your time to make an 800 mile trip. Shipping might be a better option. If you decide to get a pickup keep in mind that is going to take some heavy duty ramps to load and unload unless you have a loading dock or a nice deep ditch. The wheelbase on it is 55 inches so you are going to have to deal with the wheelwells in the truck. You might want to get a trailer. It would be easier loading. Pulling it behind a truck would not be that big a deal if you get one that is around 8 foot long. But the bottom line is that I would strongly reccomeng shipping if at all economically feasible.

As someone that owned a BX for 5 years, I would not recommend you trying to carry it in a pickup bed. This machine will fool you in regards to it's heft.
Your best bet is to rent a decent size landscape trailer with ramps or a fold down gate.
