Pick up cab clearance lights - required?

I understand the comment about front/back plates and only applying to the state you're registered in, but this is not always true. In SC we do not register trailers at all. I got pulled over in Indiana on my way to Colorado and ticketed for being out of state without trailer plates. News to me. Learned the hard way that just because your state does not require something doesn't mean you're good in another jurisdiction.

I'd get the cab lights just because I like them anyway and no way I'm paying $65k for a big truck without them, but I'm a redneck like that anyway. If I were the OP and had any questions and planned to two out of state at some point, I'd probably just go ahead and get them just in case...

And also around here, you can get any of the big 3 in 250/2500/350/3500 with or without the lights as an option. Most have them on the lot, but not all. I have never seen a 150/1500 with cab lights standard.

Our '78 Chevy Scottsdale 10 had factory cab lights.

Standard on dually trucks, optional on SRW 3/4 & 1 ton.

Don't think you can get them FACTORY on any regular 1/2 ton now. I see people add them, good job, cut holes in your roof and ruin your truck.

I had factory cab lights on a SRW Super Duty, I liked the look. I hated dealing with them leaking......

I'd like to know more about those trucks because there is no data to support that in the GM engineering data. It would be interesting to see a window sticker from one of them.

They have a longer bar marker light in the middle and two and two on the right and left sides.

I knew 1 person years ago that had them on a 10+ year old truck, his leaked.

Do they all leak eventually?

Mine came with my 08 2500 single wheel GMC. LED. One single side one failed under warranty. A hundred Bucks! The same one failed out of warranty! I don't like the old looking FORD ones, but a hundred bucks? I bought the wrong side one off E-Bay cheap, and cut it apart to work on the other side!

$100 fix is crazy for a $65 option. If you build your own, that's what the upcharge is for the lights with pretty much all 3 trucks. $65.

$100.oo fix for what should be a 79 cent bulb is the modern way!

Paying a dealer to replace the assembly could make the cost a lot higher still!

I am not sure.

Mine was a 2000 and they leaked, I ended up siliconing around the bases AND the lense. No more leaks. A couple years later, I had a bulb burn out, replaced it and didn't reseal with silicon and it leaked between the orange globe and the black base until I sealed again. I actually pulled the headliner down and saw the water dripping in from the cab light.

It was always said that vehicles with AC were prone to corrosion across the top of the windshield. So, I guess having holes there does not help.
