Anybody have or know anything about these? I would be very interested in hearing if they are as good as they claim. I just got a new oxy/acetylene set up and wish I had seen this first.

I had information on these things sent to me a while back. I though it looked like a great idea and wanted to buy one on the spot, until I got the information and saw the price. A base rig is ~$1100. Compare that to a $200-300 Oxy/Acy rig, and that was the end of that. I suppose if you used it all the time the gas rig would probably pay for itself after a while, but for my occasional use, too much dough.

I hadn't checked on price. Sheesh! I thought the $$$ for my oxy/acy was hard to part with. I'll be sticking with what I've got, thank you!

I also looked into this unit a year ago. Just type the word petrogen in the search window, and it will take you to the site. This unit is used mostly for rescue and demolition. It is very cheap to use, and it will cut larger steel, stacks of steel, and will probably cut a car up in short order. Gasoline will give you an extremely hot cut. After your initial investment, you would save on cutting gases in the long run. By the time you purchase a regular cutting and welding set, plus the tanks, you are looking at $350 to $500.
I think the basic petrogen set is around $1100. I had also asked the company about a straight torch for CNC metal cutting, although you could adapt the 90 degree torch to work. Solenoid control would be used to switch the oxygen and gasoline on and off. With this setup, you should be able to cut some serious steel with precision.
