Persistent oil leak and not running

Hello everyone I own a Massy 135 with a three cylinder Perkins diesel. I recently replaced the forward crank seal as It had a pretty bad oil leak. Everything went as expected but when I buttoned it all up it started leaking in the same place and now it won’t start. It ran perfectly fine before the repair. It has sat idle for about two to three weeks.

question: is it common for Perkins 3 cylinder diesels to leak around the timing gear cover? Lastly, what would cause it not to run? It turns over but doesn’t fire off. It has fuel pressure!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Do you have a low lever oil sensor? The leak is it just from the cover? Did you use a high temp gasket maker like permatex and follow the directions? I am only guessing as I never had a perkins. I always use permatex instead of a gasket it is handier than have to order or run to town to get one.

No I didn’t. I used the gasket that was supposed to be for my engine. I saw no sensor under or around the cover.

I bleed the fuel system all the way to the fuel pump. It has fuel but doesn’t start. I can’t figure it out!

I'm wondering if the oil leak (as small as it is) is reducing compression and not allowing combustion. Just a thought!!

A new gasket? Did you tork is to specs?
Make sure in neutral remove jectors and see if you get
fuel and check compression . That's all I can tell you
as I am not a diesel mech. Sorry not much help.

Did you by chance remove any of the gears when you did the gasket?
