Permalink?

What is the fuction of the permalink by the number of the post? I have searched for a description, but cannot seem to find one.

It is a way to post a link to that exact post.

Example. Go to any other thread on this forum and copy the permalink. Come back to this post and paste the permalink, then post the reply. If you then click on the permalink in this post it will take you directly to the "permalinked" post in the other thread.

It's a easy way of posting links to other threads that you may be referencing. Like when someone ask, "Wasn't there a post about so and so a couple of month's ago?".

As a example say you had asked about how to build a bluebird box. There is a current thread on bluebird box's. I went to that thread and right clicked on permalink on the first post in that thread and then selected "copy link location". I come back here and post that link.

Under the old software you used to be able to put a name to a link, rather than post the http//... Is this still possible?

Sure, you just need to write the link in UBB code. Using the link I used in the example above it would look like this.

Bluebird Box[/url*]

Remove the * sign from the last part. I had to use it to prevent it from making it a real link so you could see it. Where I put "Bluebird Box" is where you put the word/name you want to appear as clickable like this.

You can click on the Globe and Paperclip icon, paste in the URL. Then the forum software inserts the UBB code, with the URL, Highlights the name (default name is the URL) so you can just start typing and what you type replaces the default name.
