GREETS everyone,
I'm new here and was referred here on another tractor board because my tractor was "foreign made".

I recently purchased a Allis Chalmers 5020 4wd diesel tractor.
GREAT little tractor and exactly what I needed to cleanup and clear some of the overgrown woods on my property.
I test drove and check it, and made sure everything worked. I was more than happy with it. When I got it home I noticed it had a bit of a fluid like on the rear axle shaft.
"No biggie" I thought, it needs the shaft seal replaced. That is until I tried to locate one from one. ---NOT AVAILABLE--- every vendor I checked with.

The part number is 72098023 Oil Seal.

A few things I know.
This is a "foreign tractor". Yes, it is a Hino, made in Japan for the 1981 model year. But they produce basically the same tractor from '77-85 for several brands.
Allis Chalmers 5020
Massey Ferguson 210
Simplicity 9523
And also the Hinomoto E23

The facts are regardless of the age of these tractors, they are near indestructible and there are thousands of them out there still churning away on the job. There HAS to be a supplier somewhere.
SO, I was directed here.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Do you have the seal out? Measure the OD of the shaft and the seal housing. Motion Industries will have one.

Google the part number-Southern Global shows one in stock for $65

Can be a std metric seal that any bearing shop has

Sounds extremely high. Local vendor should be able to supply as others have said.

They are good tractors. I once built a cage on one for a driving range. It had 4000 hours on it before needing any serious engine work. Looked like it survived Armageddon... even nailed it a couple times myself.

Take the seal to a local bearing supply house. Seal will probably cost you $3-4.

If you have a set of calipers mike the shaft diameter. If not he can get close enough by looking at the lip.

Any luck finding the part? About to start tearing into my AC 5050 and I know the hydraulics need some work.

Yeah, the seal is showing on the Global Southern site for $65. EEK! that is a lot of bread for a seal that should be less than $10.

I'm thinking any AGCO parts supplier should have this really since both Allis and MF and even Simplicity, all AGCO brands now had this tractor.

There are 3 within 100 miles from me, going to make some calls.

BTW, started the tractor up yesterday, just bought a new Bushog type rotary cutter and I was going to see if the PTO drive shaft would bind. The lift was hesitating on raising. It never did this before. That is low hydraulic fluid. This seal leak has to be address sooner rather than later. :(

Yep, that's low. You know the correct oil level plug?

There is a plug on the right side of the tractor. I'm assuming that is it. I removed the plug and nada, nothing dribbled out and the tractor was even on a slant leaning that way.
I plan to keep it topped off till I can get the oil seal I need. I got a 2 gallon jug of UTHF oil from tractor supply today for that purpose.
I've call 2 local AGCO parts dealers yesterday; one flat out told me "we don't fool with them old tractors".
The other told me he would have to get out the old book to find that part number and would call me back, which he never did.
There is another dealer I want to call about 80 miles from me. If they have the seal in stock at a reasonable price I will make an excuse to drive out there and pick it up. ;)

Ah but you can alway cheat on an otherwise good seal. You can install a Ready Sleeve (not cheep) and that will bring the shaft diameter up so that the seal doesn't leak any more. Or you can do what third world countries do. They carefully remove the garter spring from the seal and shorten it. The spring ends are just twisted together so they are easy to shorten. A shorter spring tightens up the seal and all is good again.

I actually contacted a seal vendor with several part number for the seal, no dice. They wants exact measurements; for that would have to pull the seal out. Wont' do that unless I have a new seal to go in.

Not really a big deal. We're very rural here, not much in the way of automotive parts houses and no specialty places for something like that, but one or two of the parts houses will take your measurements, cross reference a seal (or bearing) and even here, at most it's a two day wait.
I just went through this with a weird sized grease seal on a trailer. I tore it down one evening, used a micrometer to get my measurements, went into town early the next morning, they had my two new seals in the store by early that same afternoon.

Did you ever find a seal for this tractor? I have one in hand for my MF 210 and cant seem to locate one anywhere, even checked bearing supply house in Memphis where I have always had luck measuring and cross referencing.

Seem if there is part number on seal that would be a "industry standard".. If you can get to it and read number on it, you can probably find it... Had issues with a JD riding mower and dealer wanted some ridiculous price, and I found number on seal, it was a "standard seal" at several online suppliers for about 1/3 the cost of "green store" actually I very rarely buy genuine deere as there is so much generic aftermarket that is direct fit...
