The pallet placer must be either: reasonably fit, or working with one or more accomplices.
Consider the difficulty of a single squirrel holding up one pallet while picking up and leaning a second pallet against the first. This is well beyond the capability of one squirrel! One slip and it would be bye bye squirrel, hello stew pot.
Squirrels have been documented colluding with moose however, as shown in the Rocky and Bullwinkle film--spirited out of the country by Natasha! These aliens keep appearing out of nowhere in this mystery.
If a moose is involved, then all bets are off. Moose antlers would make very good pallet props for a squirrel, but moose only have antlers in late summer into winter--about the time the pallets become visible. Hmmm, very suspicious.
