Anyone have solutions for keeping rats out of the cab or from getting under hood and building nests?

I'll be following this thread for an answer myself. They will totally cover the motors and chew the wires. A yard cat is the only thing that has ever worked for me and I don't like cats. They spray everything or have kittens all the time. The last time I drove my old dodge, I noticed a strange smell and I opened the hood when I got home and there was a rat on the exhaust manifold. It was smoking.

I don't know about the cab because I don't have one. But I've tried mothballs and traps for under the hood and they didn't work. What worked best for me was to keep the hood up and open. I haven't found a single chewed wire or nest since doing that. I think they don't like the feeling of being exposed to the open.

I have heard of a can of human urine does the trick but my metal can rusted? I will try a plastic container next ! it did seem to work till the can puked though.
If it works, it's worth it !! :D

Buy a bag of those green "RAT PELLETS;" they are the size of M & M's, but are round. They will cure the rat's appetite permantely. I put them on the ridge of my JD's valve cover, and haven't had any problems for a few years?

Throw a bag of rat poison in the cab , And over winter in the shop i leave the doors open on the combines so the cats can sleep in them .

I feed my rats John Deere green pellets. I haven't seen the M&M size but will check the next time I visit the granary. I go through around 10 packages of the pellets a year but only find a few bodies. Must be the critters go somewhere else to die.

The poison I was told makes the rodents thirsty, and they head for water?
