Pack Rat chewed me up !

I just made a deal with a good friend who wanted my old Mercedes 450 SL . I thought I would go out to the shop and charge up the battery and get it ready for him to pick up . What a surprize when it would not start ??? Opened the hood and discovered a rat pack has built a nest and chewed up a bunch of the wires completely in half /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif! Now I knew they would chew on the plastic coating ,but I had No idea that they would chew the wires also . So I guess I get to spend the week replacing wires ! Anyone know a good way to keep them at bay ? I am going to try a Rat trap . I would love to poison that little bugger but I have dogs and am afraid they might get into the poison .

for 18 years I stored a rider in a shed, I put mothballs under the hood and never had a problem. I have an old truck that is parked outside, it gets the same treatment under the hood and in the cab. No critters yet....

I use moth flakes in anything that is going to set for a long period of time like farm equipment or our boat over winter. I just put some in a paper cups so that I don't have a mess when I get ready to use it again. I also do this with my seed and it seems to keep them away.

I use moth balls at my place in Panama to keep out the spiders and other creepy crawlys out but I never thought about using them for the Rats . Thanks again
