Has anyone ever gotten a oversize load permit in PA for a non-commercial trailer. I'm wondering how much of a PITA it is. I just bought an old 10 ft (9.5 ft) pull disc for my tractor and have to transport it on my utility trailer upstate. The only way I can fit it on securely is straight on with about a total of 1 ft. overwidth. I got it home the 5 miles without getting stopped but I'm sure I won't make it 120 mi. on the highway. Thanks.

In Indiana its as simple process and cost about $50. Now for something that little over-width I would just go for it and play stupid. We tow 10' wide items all the time without a eye even batted.

I was thinking of just playing stupid but on my 5 ft wide trailer the overhang just asks to be stopped by a cop to check width.

Borrow a bigger trailer or just pull it behind your truck with a SMV sign on it.

I may be wrong but I believe the SMV limits your speed to 25mph tops?

I would look into renting a 96" or 102" wide trailer and jack the disc around to get the width within or at least close to the trailer width. Keep the overhang if any off the right side then move it early on a Sunday morning.

yeah, that was one of my ideas but my tractor is upstate and no way to manuever this rig down here. I guess I should have thought this out better before picking it up. Thanks.

This may not help with this predicament, but my understanding is that you're allowed 14' 6" in PA for agricultural implements, which would mean you were legal for your trip home. There's a number of stipulations - take a look at 4921-b-2 (page 12) this PDF on the PA DMV's website:
