3-Point Hitch Overrunning clutch options

I am more than sure this has been ask and answered many time but I searched and could not find answer so here goes.

I have a John Deere 3038e. To the best of my knowledge the PTO shaft will not "free wheel", therefore when I hook up any equipment using a PTO shaft I have to rotate the shaft untill it lines up with the PTO on the tractor. This of course can be difficult.

I am thinking of trying an overrunning clutch, but the PTO shaft on the tractor does not have a hole to drive a pin into to hold the overrunning clutch.

Can anyone please let me know what they have done to remedy this issue.

Are you attempting to attach implement pto to tractor with engine running or off? Pto brake appears to be hyd actuated and if it is in fact hyd actuated with engine off one should be able to rotate tractor pto shaft especially with the aid of slip joint(water pump) pliers or a large adjustable wrench.

Yeah, it'll move. You're just not trying hard enough. Also helps to put the transmission in Neutral.

On my 3720 if you switch the selector to mid pto the rear pro spins freely. Not sure if this would work you or not.
