overloads and kills engine

I have a mini excavator that I am rebuilding (1994 Takeuchi TB15). Put in a new engine so it has plenty of power. But when I do certain moves with it the engine dies because it's being overloaded. Also the controls seem fairly jerky and not smooth like they're getting too much power even when my engine throttle isn't high. Idea why?

It sounds like you might have an hydraulic obstruction, which causes the pump to go to
relief. Double check your hoses and QA fittings to be sure nothing blocks flow.

Jerky movement may point to low hyd fluid, or clogged inlet screen to pump.

You state that some functions cause the engine to stall. Does this mean that some functions work properly?

If yes are there two separate valve stacks on your excavator?

Since you are rebuilding this machine have some of the hydraulic lines been removed or disconnected?

Open center or closed center? I know very little of closed center, but I would expect this machine to use it, and if so, it sounds more like a load sense problem than a smashed cylinder tube.

Yeah, this is important.

Many mini excavators when to a dual HST drives in recent years, and I, for one, do not
know what an old small Takeuchi uses. The mini I am working on now is very simple: it
uses a single gear pump and open-center hydraulics, just like CUTs.

Now, off to order more %$*#(T^ metric adapters......
