I've been looking at LED outdoor lighting because even though it costs a little more to start with it....it uses a lot less energy over time and there is no bulb to buy and change out. I looked at the standard lights we have all used for years and some are being phased out like the 175 watt mercury vapor. I don't care for the color of the yellowish lighting products (high pressure sodium) and the LED is brighter white. I bought one 2 years ago from Home Depot which has lost quite a bit of its light now...so I have been looking at the commercial level LED security lights because a good number of them are tested and certified to perform better and longer and have a longer warranty.

Anyone have any experience with the better LED dusk to dawn security or flood lights?

Where I live the annual savings on the electric bill (LED v. 175 watt mercury vapor) is about $75/year.

I looked once at commercial LED to replace my sodium vapor and if I recall, the LED price was just too dang high at this point to justify the replacement for my lights at this point. I'll be watching though. I have a sodium vapor on each side of the house pointed out into the yard so you can see out the windows at night.

I was just looking at them at Sam's Club yesterday. For $60, they seemed too good to be true. I don't need them right away, but when I do, I'll start there and see if I can find something better. If not, I'll buy one of them and see how it works out.

I just bought a couple LED motion (or heat not sure) sensor units from Costco. I think they were about $45. They seem to work great so far. You can adjust time on and sensitivity. They say range is thirty feet but I think that is optimistic but maybe true with no other distractions (light/heat?) sources nearby. Low energy consumption, bright white light, I am happy so far.
