In that case a 7,000 pound trailer makes sense. There’s no use in a bigger one.

Have you looked at Big Tex trailers? My small trailer is 5x12 tandem with ramp door. Back in 2005 it cost $1600. Have no clue what these trailers are going for now. The PJ dump pictured below I bought used for $4000. It is a 6.5x14 14000 lb. Bought it about 6 years ago.

Might mention that one reason for looking at lighter trailers is my Dodge Dakota and it's limited towing capacity.
That trailer would be a good fit for the uses you stated. I've looked at them in the past and would like to have one. They are small/light enough to tow around the yard to load up with a tractor or decent size garden tractor, then hook to the truck and haul to the dump.

Also is there any trailer size restrictions at your landfill? They recently added an 8ft length limit on trailers before charging an oversize load fee.
There use to be an exception for yard waste/brush (I would use my 16ft deckover dump) but they got rid of that last year.

I forgot to add that the most useful trailer in the fleet is my dads little 4.5x8 Snow Bear tilt trailer, if it was a dump it would be about perfect.

Wouldn't that be a bit much weight for a Dodge Dakota to be towing?

What’s the truck rated for? A 5200 pound may be close to max .

You realize you don’t have to tow the max load in the trailer, right? A 7000lb trailer will generally be better built, provide extra volume capacity, and work well when you buy that new truck. :D

07 sure-trac 14 foot 14,000 gvw $4,500 used about 8 years ago. Takes min. of 1 ton dual wheel truck to pull it. hauls 6 tons without a problem, but I usually run 5 tons average. --- The problem with these are the electric hydraulic pumps the put on them are junk! --mine wont dump 1 load without charger hooked to a new battery on it. ---currently junking the electric thing and mounting a gas motor and regular pump and valve on it.
For casual use with small tow vehicle the little ones are probably o.k. ----just dont get a sure-trac brand!
