With Roy on this one.... My 7.3l trucks are still in the yard long after I sold those poor excuses of a diesel called a duramax... Glad I never traded the fords.... Agree though that the 6.0l was a toilet...

Yeah, I almost bought one of those 6.0L Diesels in an F-350. I'm sure glad I researched them before purchasing!!!

Typical bashing of a 6.0 by someone who never owned one. I have over 100K miles and have had exactly ZERO issues. However, I realize that in stock format they have a few flaws. One of which is the oil cooler that can fail which causes the egr cooler to fail. Often times only the egr cooler is replaced, which will fail again and again if the oil cooler isn't upgraded to the newer design. With the 7.3 people were able to easily add a chip or programmer and turn up the power. In stock form the 6.0 is close to maxed out and the headbolts/studs need to be upgraded before increasing the power. Not doing so can cause big problems.

But I don't blame you as things spread quickly on the internet and most people will only show up to bash something. I do though, know personally of other 6.0 owners who also have very reliable trucks.

Back to the green machines in this thread.....they're beautiful!!!

Not really... I did a fair amount of research and I found a lot more negative then positive concerning this engine. I was actually online to see if the price was reasonable and that lead me to link after link of bad reports.
I liked the truck and wanted to buy it...but there were just too too many lemon reports about the 6 liter diesels.
Were all the 6 liter engines bad? No, but I wasn't bout to risk $22K on a truck with as poor a reputation.

Folks considering buying these can (and should) do their own research.

I'm happy your truck has been trouble free, but don't make a frivolous claim of me bashing when I'm reporting what the overall consensus of that engine has been. You are taking what I said out of context. If a chip or programmer is added, the head bolts must be replaced. At stock power they're fine. Yes, the early design oil cooler and egr cooler could be upgraded to the newer Ford designs as insurance against a break down. However, similar negative things can be said about the 7.3 - the 4R100 trans is known to be weak. The 5 speed used with the 6.0 on the other hand, is a great transmission.

My claim is not frivolous. You have no direct experience with the 6.0, so anything being reported by you is heresay, especially when you try to say that the "consensus" about the engine is negative. On internet forums especially, more often than not people are posting with problems or issues (looking for help from others), rather than simply starting a thread to brag about good experiences. I can not even begin to count the number of negative posts and threads I've seen about the 6.0 from people who have never owned that engine - people love to "report" what they've "heard".

I did my own research on the engine prior to buying the truck. 100K miles later my decision was the correct one. The same can be said for my brother in law who has almost 300K miles on his 2003 (first year for the 6.0). He has replaced one injector....nothing else aside from normal maintenance.

I'll go with that but want to add one real quick comment.
I don't normally go with anecdotal data and I put little or no credence in most internet forums.
The information I gleaned came from places like Consumer Reports and trucking websites (not forums) that were impartial and had no agenda or bias for or against...
Ford had to buy back several hundred of these trucks due to quality problems...that's pretty much unheard of in the automotive industry. These were stock trucks (no chips or anything that would void a warranty).

So, we agree to disagree...

I currently have two 7.3s' and two 6.0s' I prefer the power of the latter and the dependability of the prior. My 2005 6.0 made all the way to 24,000 miles without problems, then had to put in a short block. I would like to move up to a new pickup but am waiting to hear how the new motor does.
