So questions for knowledgeable jd 212 and 214 enthusiasts. I own 2 older than me I think 212s one with working mower deck one one without both ran great especially considering age. and a POS problem riddled non running 214 one of the 212s starter went out. Does the engine need to be pulled to change it? if so what else should be looked at possibly replaced with the engine out? Does a starter from a 214 kohler fit the kohler 212 I think so but have been wrong before. If only I had tiny hands I probably could get at the starter mounting bolts. Thanks for knowledge.

Thanks, battery box removed awhile ago to try and remove starter. I'm also taking off a few less worn parts off the old 214 to put on the 212 for a shady tree rebuild lol. will try different extensions and u joints for my 3/8" sockets. I guess I don't have the dexterity I used to have get into tight spots anymore. Might still end up pulling the motor anyway.
