oil leak

There's an oil leak on my dirt-digger. It's somewhere in the engine compartment. Because of the honey-like, see-through effect, it's difficult to tell which join/fitting is letting it out. Is there a dye that can be added to the hydraulic oil that would give a tell tale?

Yes , there is. It's fluorescent so you need a black light for it to show up. They make dyes for A/C, engine oil, transission fluid and just about anything else that leaks. You ought to be able to buy it at a proffessional auto supply store or chase down a Snap- On truck.
