Oil leak or spray around shift boot

On my first road trip, I drove the Jepe (Futian) about 10 miles round trip to till a garden. Upon arrival I noticed oil around the shift boot. The boot has a tear all the way across or I would not have noticed it. On the way back it seemed to spray or splash more when I hit big bumps at about 10 to 18 MPH. I have had a shift boot on order and should be in today or tomorrow. Has anybody else experienced this oil leak?

There's no seal there, as normally it's well above the typical gear oil level. But sloshing/foaming can and will cause some to weep out around the levers.

It's most common in the case of overfilled housings and/or failing to use non-foaming gear oil or UTF.

Thanks greg__g, I was in hopes that's all it was. Looks like alot of dirt and crap would get down in and around the shift levers and cause problems. Must not though, or I'm sure the Chinese would fix the problem with a 2 cent o-ring or seal. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My experience with imports was that in some cases the rubber that they used did not hold up.

I had fan belts, radiator hoses, the rubber boots on the back side of the headlight and other rubber related components crack and fail prematurely.

Wherever possible I tried to replace the item with an American made counterpart as that way they lasted much longer.
