After reading about TMAC's frustration with his oil filter, then someone respectfully questioning if he was turning it the right way, I'd like to share an incident with you'll;
I had removed the seats from my eighteen wheeler, to replace the worn carpet, with a new rubber floor mat. After removing the carpet, and the shift boot, there was a slightly larger floor plate that I also removed to access the transmission. I decided to replace a normally very hard to get to air operated splitter valve that shifted the tranny from low to high range through very small 1/16" (I think) air lines. When reattaching the air lines, one proved to be a real bugger. Laying on my large belly on the floor of the truck, I could turn the ferrel nut 1/4 turn, I then had to get under the truck, using a different wrench, was able to turn the ferrel nut another 1/4 turn. After what seemed like an hour of doing this, it still wasn't tight! I took a break, got to thinking about it, then realized that while laying on the floor of the truck, I would tighten it that 1/4 turn, then crawling under the truck, I had gotten disoriented, and would loosen it 1/4 turn. As angry and disgusted with myself as I was, I still couldn't help but to laugh.
If a pipe wrench to fit a filter is small, I'd love to see what you call a big one.
