White Smokey exhaust

Ford/NH 1215 has white wispy smoke in exhaust when under a load. The exhaust has a very strong oder. Engine sounds good with no noticeable loss of power. Oil level remains constant. No loss of coolant. I know I should have a compression test done but wanted to educate myself a little before going to repair shop. Could this be an injector problem? The engine is 30 years old, has over 900 hrs and has never been touched. Could this be a fuel filter problem? Would some sort of fuel additive help? Timing? I’m hoping this is not a major like rings, valves, etc.

G'day Mate... in my experience, white smoke means that there is water in your fuel.

Check your fuel bowl and get some diesel 'biocide' additive into your tractor's tank & into whatever you're using for diesel storage/supply.

Agree white smoke is 99% of the time coolant, but you say the level is not going down. If there is a sweet smell to the exhaust then I would double down on coolant, if not I will go with what the above poster said.

Put some pressure in the cooling system and see if it will hold that pressure, sounds like it will. If you are thinking about taking it somewhere that is a quick and easy test you can do yourself before a compression test.

I will say if you are filling with cans it is easy to get moisture in those cans, it could be also the last batch of fuel you got could have had water in it.

One last thing, I would get it looked at, "steam cleaning" your cyl's is not the best idea. It will clean the combustion chambers but it is not good on the engine.

It very well could be the injectors.. they’re diy friendly to remove.. and the least expensive..
I think the 1215 has an accessible fuel tank, u can look right inside it to check for water on the bottom..
Some injector cleaner probably couldn’t hurt AS LONG AS u follow the instructions..
