And this doesn't even cover filling all the grease fittings.

You left out the part about ordering the $8.50/qt special oil and having to wait to get it, so that a lot more beer would be required.

Another couple cases can be downed if you incorporated the thing in this thread.

I believe that this thread has been subjected to cross thread contamination. We need to send the original poster out for analysis to determine for sure when the proper time to change threads will be. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junk,

Would that correct the problem I'm having? I'm in an infinite loop between these 2 threads now and just can't get out. I've been reading the same things for the last 1/2 hour. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif HELP!!!

An updated version would include the amount of time spend on TBN arguing(sorry discussing) over the filter type, oil, wrench sizes, kitty litter and beer

You forgot the part where he wonders why the old oil was RED when he drained it and the cost of a new transmission...

A real hoot, even with vintage... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was at a Jiffy Lube a few years ago and the kid kept putting oil into the engine, but couldn't understand why it wasn't coming up on the dip stick. He kept checking the transmission fluid level and filling the engine. I tried to tell him what was wrong, but he cut me off saying that they were told not to take any advise from a customer. The biggest problem was that it was my car he was filling with oil. By the time that I got someone to stop him, he had put over 20 quarts of oil into the crankcase. I asked if they were going to charge me for the extra oil, but the manager wasn't amused. They still charged me for the oil change and the 3 extra quarts that the engine takes. That was the last time that I have been back there. It was my second bad experience there....

Junkman, I know that most of the guys working in those places know what they're doing, but I just could never get myself to trust them. When I was about 18 and my Dad owned a service station, we hired a guy who said he was experienced at oil and filter changing, and greasing vehicles. And he did all right on the first few cars, then he had the mayor's new Oldsmobile in for an oil & filter change. When he let it down off the lift, he came inside and told me the car started OK, but wouldn't back out of the bay. He had drained the transmission and added 5 quarts of oil to the crankcase! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif We told the customer what had happened, but fortunately the car suffered no ill effects.

Coulda been in my Grandmothers place... She took her Nova to Jiffy Lube about 12 years ago. Had oil change, and was back on the road. For a couple miles... Seems the check engine light came on, the oil light came on, and the engine was getting warm.

Turns out, they did not fully reinstall the drain plug. It fell out on the road... They paid for the towing, refilled it, and installed a new plug. Fortunately, it didn't hurt the motor.

Most people don't think that any harm has been done, however the longevity of the engine has been dramatically reduced. I had seen this many times when people that owned Corvair's would throw the cooling belt and overheat the engine. Then the belt would be replaced and they drove away thinking that everything was OK. 20 or 30 thousand miles later, the consequences of that event would take its toll in the form of a worn out engine or a broken piston. Car engines are like human bodies. What you do with them when you are young, effects your longevity when you are old. A sad but true commentary is that the young will not learn this till they are old.
