My manual says to change the oil every 200 hours after the initial 50 hour service. That seems like alot of hours, or is it just me? I figure at 30mph that would be like 6,000 miles in my truck. I like to change it every 3,000 so I reckon I'll change the tractor every 100 hours. It will make me feel better. I always get that warm & fuzzy feeling after doing the complete service on the tractor.

My tractor also recommends every 200 hrs. Mine will be changed in May & November irregardless of the manual. I've read too many reports on the breakdown of oil, particularly on high cycle (hot & cool) engines. I also am changing the hydraulic fluid on a yearly basis (Nov) because of the hygroscopic properties of hydraulic fluid, not to mention the quick breakdown of carbon chains in the oil in high shear (read gear pump) applications.

Nobody ever hurt nothing by changing oil too often and don't let some tree huggin hippy tell you it is a waste of oil. The old oil might still be good, but it is a drop in the bucket and you get some value from the new oil since you feel better about it.

I would rather replace good oil than to wait until the oil has broken down and begun to ruin my engine.

I change mine every 50hrs which is working out to about twice a year.

Kioti recommends every 100 hours for my CK20HST, but I change it every 50 hours because I use a high sulfer content diesel fuel. High sulfur = high sulfuric acid which can lead to cavitation in the engine.

Even if I didn't use high sulfer, I would probably change it at 50. The oil just isn't that costly, and I like taking good care of my engine.
