Oil and Filter

Just changed the oil and filter plus the transmission filter on a 20hp Kohler Cub model 2542. Its ridiculous what the dealer charges for 1 quart of hydrostatic transmission fluid. What I am looking for is cross reference numbers for the Oil Filter, Transmission Filter and transmission fluid for the 2542. Anybody that has the appropriate cross referenced numbers so I can go to a NAPA store would be appreciated.

Wix filters lists a GT2542 Cub Cadet.
Air=#42297
Oil=#51056
Hyd=#51410

Usually if you go to NAPA they drop the first number so filters would be a 2297,1056, and 1410

An equivalent oil is 20W50. If you are using Drive System Plus synthetic oil, as I do, I use Mobil 1 20W50. I bought it at Walmarts for $26 for a 5 qt jug. Quite a bit cheaper than Cub oil. I've been using it 3-4 years since I had an oil leak that was getting expensive. The dealer fixed the leak last winter to the tune of $600 for a lift valve replacement.

Exotic fluids and filters are nothing but a rip off, and a total waste. I have a much cheaper Cub model, with the big Kohler twin (26 hp), and a transmission with no serviceable filter. I've run a conventional 15w40 diesel oil in both the engine, and transmission since nearly new. Engine oil gets changed twice a year, tranny once. Oil filter of choice..Purolator Classic, $3.27 at Walmart.... Oil, Delvac 1300, $12.47 a gallon at Walmart.

Mower turned 10 years old this month, hour meter stands at 1,006 hrs., runs fine, no leaks or drips from engine or tranny.

Toyota Corolla filter fits most Kohler motors Z418 is the reference number here in Australia
Use genuine Cub filter on the Hydro , or look up BDU/Hydrogear in the USA and see what they recommend
Oil for engine 10w/40 good quality , Oil for Hydro 15w/50 Synthetic is the best and extends the change intervals
Have been using these for 17 years on a HDS 2155 and a GT2550
