Tiller Offset Tiller

I learned the WONDERS of a tiller this past weekend! They are amazing little devices! BUT, the width of the tiller doesn't completely cover my tracks. I have my tires spread quite wide and may be able to narrow them but I like 'em wide (much too much slope around here for a narrow stance!)! So, my question is whether I can mount the tiller offset so that it will at least cover one wheel track completely? How much offset can these PTO shafts handle? Will the top link cause any problems? Is this a dumb idea?

What type of tiller are you using? My tiller covers the tracks of my NH, but the offset comes in handy when trying to till along walls or fences. I am using a BushHog RTS 74 and it allows for an offset of about 18 inches. However, the pto shaft and gearbox stay centers on driveline to pto. I loosen a few nuts and slide the tiller body to the side I want it offset to, then tighten things back up.

I too have a bushhog and it seems to have the same setup as yours... I don't have a manual or anything, so, I wasn't sure if it was built to allow for the offset.

When you say <font color=blue>the pto shaft and gearbox stay centers on driveline to pto</font color=blue>, do you mean that the pto is stays inline with the tiller gearbox? If I did the manuever you described, the gearbox would NOT be inline with the PTO...

This should help with adjustments of your tiller.

To offset my Farmking tiller all the all the hitch points remain in alignment as does the gearbox. The tiller itself moves on its hitch attachment and the gearbox has an extended shaft that slides through it.

Thanks Ron! Even tho my tiller is too old to be in the manual, there was still good info contained within...

It looks like you can offset the tiller by moving the lower hitch pins. The A-frame and gearbox can not be adjusted, so, they will not be aligned with the PTO...

Egon, the farmking sounds like a good design... As I stated in my last post, the bushhog doesn't keep the gearbox inline with the pto... Of course, the PTO shafts should be able to handle a certain amount of "misalignment" but it just seems they would "be happier" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif if aligned...
