When I first got my Case 1845C I was told to run #2 diesel on or off road diesel. Well off road diesel isn't just everywhere. I recall the #2 on road diesel fuel issue last summer, but didn't think it affected me. Turn$ out I was wrong. #2 diesel on road is no longer something I should be running in my Case because it was re-formulated for emissions which tends to degrade fuel systems in off road engines. Screwed me up to the tune of $1400 in new seals and injector pump parts.

Picked up a storage tank and had B20 deilvered. Good thing I like the smell of french fries.

For what its worth.

sounds odd to me, off road diesel is the same except no road tax added, same as heating fuel, I ran an 1845C for years using heating fuel, no problems. Maybe something I'm not seeing, but still sounds odd.

I was at the Case dealer earlier this morning, talking to the guys at the parts desk and one of the mechanics. My problem is a broken oil line to my fuel injector.

The mechanic told me that new Cummins motors rely on the fuel to lubricate the fuel injector pump instead of oil, like on my tractor.

Anyway, he said that some states have a new formula for on-road diesel that removes more sulpher than before. This makes it dryer and unable to lubricate the injector pump.

He also said the cost to replace those pumps is around $1,500.

This is all new to me, so I'm just passing on what I was told, but it sure matches up to what happened to you and your injector pump.

The question "What is off-road diesel?" has been debated and discussed to death in the Oil, Fuel,& Lubricants forum. What it boils down to is you must ask your dealer to find out what he is selling for off-road diesel as it may vary from region to region, distributor to distributor, station to station, and pump to pump.

Within 15 minutes of my house I can get 3 different types of fuel that are called "off-road" by the seller. They are 1) premium high cetane dyed diesel, 2) dyed regular on-road diesel, and 3) home heating fuel. I use the premium high cetane fuel.

Bottom line: ask and make sure you use the correct additive for whatever you buy.

I was talking to a fuel hauler the other day and he told me that diesel, kerosen and jet fuel comes out of the same tank. The only difference is the number of filters it goes through on the way to truck.

During Desert storm we used what the military called JP4 for diesel in many vehicles. They didn't run any different but the filters were cleaner.

Kubota told me not to use the ultra low sulfer on road fuel in my 2000 model year BX.

I find that hard to believe, even for Texas distributors. Filtering fuel will not change its characteristics. I would think twice before purchasing from anywhere he delivers. I think he is blowing smoke /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

When I was in the Navy we ran JP4 and JP5 in the planes. After taking all the fuel samples we poured them into the diesel tugs and diesel equipment. They ran as you said...just fine.
