Some of the managers I have worked for would have made excuses and farmed that down.. err I mean delegated to a worker....

I've always been the "GO to guy". When nobody else can get it done...they give it to me.
About 6 months ago, my current supervisor was on vacation and I had to sit in on the weekly meeting they attend. When questions about which section of the shop was going to do a certain job came up the supervisors pointed at each other. Our big boss looked at me and said "That usually means that your going to be doing it". I laughed. I guess I'm still the "Go to guy", even here at my new job (5 years now).
