Non Ethanol gasoline

I routinely run non-ethanol in all of my vehicles and lawn equipment. The performance difference, especially from my experience, is most notable in the small engines. I was ready to toss my JD lawn tractor over a cliff before I tried a tank of non-ethanol fuel. The difference was nothing less than amazing.

I've always heard that vehicle mpg is approximately 10 percent better on non-ethanol. Paying an extra 30 cents per gallon, when the horse p__s is at $3, should be break even - plus, it's better for your engine.

I too have heard of stations selling Pure gas but actually having ethanol in it. I buy ethanol free gas from a station near me for all my mowers, generator and chain saw. For the chain saw I have found that premium fuel runs the best but my mower run ok on regular.
I would like to know how you check the fuel for ethanol. Anyone know of a reliable test?

Pour some of the gasoline you suspect to be pure in a jar.
Then pour some tap water in the jar and shake the jar.
Let it set for for seconds, and see if there is a puddle of water under the gasoline.
If there is a distinct puddle, then you have pure gasoline.
If there is a just a cloudy mix or emulsion then you have ethanol in the gas.

I recently removed most of the ethanol from a gallon of 91-octane gasoline. I verified
that there was about 10% ethanol in there by measuring the change in fluid boundary
between the gas and the water, before and after shaking. A clear glass jar like you
used is best.

The cloudy water/ethanol mix you get with this test does clear up naturally, and has
a distinct boozy smell. Burns with an invisible flame.

Sadly, I have not found a place that will sell me ethanol-free gas, conveniently. (The
airport has it, but I don't have an acct to get in and buy it.)

I finally found a source for Non-Ethanol gasoline. Now I am told that it burns too hot in air cooled engines.
Before Ethanol was added it wasn't an issue.

What do you guys say?

Air cooled engines have been around a LOT longer than ethanol fuel.

My grounds equipment dealer had a little inexpensive ethanol gas tester that gave the answer in percent ethanol. As above, you mix the sample with a bit of water and shake it. If I find a cheater they will get turned in for it.

WHAT.... air cooled engines existed way before non ethanol fuels were ever an issue. All fuels were non ethanol before the stupid as* govmnt got involved.

Non ethanol fuels wont hurt any air cooled engine. Been using them a long time. What it will do is prevent fuel line degeneration and carb damage

If you really truly believed etha-junk was the same as gas, why would walk away from someone telling you it's different
