I bought the third function/diverter valve kit from Rural King for my RK37HC thinking that all hoses and so forth were included and cut to the correct length. My neighbor who does a lot of mechanical work on tractors installed the valve for me today but there's no pressure to the grapple. The FEL functions normally as far as raising, curling, dumping and so forth. The light on the solenoid comes on when the button on the joystick is pressed and you can hear the valve clicking but no fluid to the grapple. The only thing changed was that the valve came with Pioneer fittings but the grapple came with flat faced so we changed those on the valve to flat faced. We cracked open the fittings slightly on the valve and to see if there was pressure but the fluid just dripped. The hoses to the grapple will be repositioned once we figure this out but are like this for ease of access. Also, my neighbor said all the 3rd function valves he's installed had two button for the joystick but this one in the kit only has one. Is that correct? Any ideas other than the valve being bad?

With that diverter valve, you have to hold the button while moving the joystick to actuate the grapple. Typically left/right on the joystick as the valve is usually connected using the curl/dump circuit.

Did you plumb it to the bucket curl lines?
If so and the bucket curls good, when you activate the switch use your curl function to provide flow.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot tomorrow...........

Are you saying you weren't trying that????

What were you trying?

Did your "mechanical neighbor" test anything out after he was done? Or explain to you that you need to hold the button and move the joystick?

Did your neighbor mechanic tell you whether he set it up to divert the lift/lower or the curl/dump circuit??

A diverter NEVER needs a two button joystick. Because a diverter has only ONE solenoid. SO at this point I have lost all confidence in "your neighbor mechanic"

OH, and also.....it looks like its plumbed wrong......but hard to tell from the pics because I cannot see what the ports are labeled. A closeup would be nice. But guessing about 75% sure this is the issue....incorrect plumbing

some do have two button ... Not sure why or what it dose... maybe a activated and disactivated ??

''Kit includes joystick handle that replaces your existing handle and has 2 integrated momentary push button switches so you can open and close your cylinder with a push of a button

A third function and a diverter valve are both solenoid operated but that is the end of the similarities.
A diverter plumbs into an existing control circuit to add a circuit to a control valve.
A third function is plumbed into the main power flow of a system and directs all flow through it to one of it's two ports and allows return flow to the tank.

I haven't had a chance yet to try it but I think that the moving of the joystick will work. Last night after seeing the replies I recall the RK person telling me that you have to use the curl/dump function when I bought the kit months and months ago but I forgot about it. I guess they don't expect anyone to buy the kit and install it themselves because it comes with no instructions other than a photo of the plumbing of the new hoses. Nothing about the operation of the valve.

LD1, why did you feel you had to berate my neighbor who was willing to install that for me just because he said he had never installed a third function valve with only one button? The TYM label on the kit calls it a third function valve even though it's a diverter valve. I thought that this was a place for us to ask questions not get cut down.
