Need help. I have a 3820i Century, in foreward gear it has no speed, reverse seems to be working fine. I put it in gear release clutch and give it throttle, it hardly moves, doesn't matter what range or gear. I replaced oil/filter, rear lube/filter and fuel filter. Does anyone have any ideas?

So it works in reverse?
I am going out a limb here, is it a shuttle transmission?
If reverse is working it most likely isn't the main clutch.
Is it possible that your mechanical shuttle shift is out of adjustment?
If not it sounds internal and expensive and time consuming.

I had the same problem (see my post /forums/century-branson/395509-tractor-loss-power.html[/url]) and mine was the clutch. Unfortunately this is not a cheap fix requiring the tractor to be split; figure 2-3K depending on parts and labor.

So you really aren't at a loss for engine power, you just can't get the tractor to move properly. As others have mentioned, it is likely your clutch. I suspect if you lowered a box scraper against a tree in reverse your reverse would stop working as well? If your reverse is truly strong and will spin the tires or stall the tractor then the reverse lever is no longer shifting the gears inside the transmission. Even if that is the case, I'd check to make sure the linkage isn't sloppy and causing it not to fully engage. It is unlikely to be a serious internal transmission issue.

Clutches wear and need to be adjusted occasionally. You want roughly 1" free play at the pedal, but if it has already gotten really hot by slipping then it probably ruined the clutch disc. Before I'd replace the clutch, I'd try to see if it can be adjusted.

I had something similar happen to my New Holland 555E backhoe. I could go backwards, but could not get it to go forward. I replaced the direction control lever and that solved the problem. It wasn't cheap, and it wasn't easy, but I really didn't have any other choice.

This is a totally mechanical shuttle. I suspect your 555E is electric/hydraulic for the engagement?

If the OP comes back and says his clutch is good, we can talk about linkage issues, a possible roll pin problem on the outside of the transmission case and so forth. There are a couple of wear points in the linkage.
