Well, like I said,it might be,but still doubt it,will have to do a search,[bet if it is its not near as bad as calcium]

Well did a little short search, and found that,I'm right again.

www.methanex.com,is one place, says it won't hurt carbon or stainless steels,Says at elavated temps it can hurt copper and aluminum and long term storage in plastic is not good but won't hurt rubber.

But,you know air is corrosive to steel,so maybe methinal is less corrosive than air??

So,yeah about everything here on earth is corrosive to steel, but still say it is no more corrosive to steel than beet juice.

They burn it in race motors,so...

Greetings, I'm planing to fill mine. Rob did break down on "Mods to Loretta's tractor". Under ,Chinese tractors, thats the way I will do mine. He and Loretta show step by step how they did it. I'm sure it was one of the Mods they did on that thread. Good with the new tractor. Richard

Its not any worse than beet juice either and alot cheaper,[probably don't want to wash with either],

Calcium, don't have no experience with it,and we all know it rust steel, but,if it covers rim it shouldn't hurt rim,if you could get a stainless steel valve stem[maybe they are, never seen them rust?] you shouldn't have any trouble with it,people has been using it for years, probably takes many many years for it to harm rims.

Could be, but the meth mixture doesn't weigh as much as RG nor does it have the lower freeze point that RG has. It might be cheaper, but why spend the money to fill your tires with something that isn't going to give you the maximum amount of stability and ballast. Plus if you get a puncture, the RG isn't going to create an environmental hazard like the meth.

Had CC in tubes in the rear tires on an IH 340 for about 20 years. When we replaced the tires 3 years ago, the CC had eaten through the tubes and began rusting the rims. Fortunately it hadn't become severe enough to the point where the rims would have needed to be replaced.

It won't freeze period I don't think,if it mixed strong enough, its probably got a much lower freeze point than beet juice if water/methinal mixture is strong enough. I got[I think] 5 gal to about 35-40 gal water, thats supposed to be good down below zero I think,[forget the ratio to freeze point now,but its probably on this site somewheres.

Now yes its nasty stuff compared to beet juice and it don't weigh as much as beet juice[I hear],it weighs same as water more or less, but for your average small tractor, thats what 5 lb difference? a tire,? between juice and methinal, not much more than that anyways.

Calcium,rotted your tubes,didn't know it would do that,[believe you,just didn't know that],heard it rusted out stems?But 20 years later,thats not to bad a deal than,20 years,most people don't have anything now a days for 20 years[stuff don't last that long].

Methanol is good down to about -10 to -20, RG is good down to -35 and won't solidify until -50.

Gal of meth. - 6.6 lbs
Gal of water - 8.35 lbs
Gal of RG - 10.7 - 11 lbs
Gal of CC - 11.5 lbs

If you take a 18.4-24 tire and fill it, it will take 74 gallons. With RG that is 791.8 lbs. With a 50/50 mix (the proper mix may different than that) of meth and water that's 553.15 lbs. That's a big difference if you ask me, 238 lbs will really change the feel of the tractor.

I know what you mean, most everyone these days just buys new when something goes wrong. That tractor is actually from the mid 60's so it's even older than 20 years, and still going strong.

So your saying pure methinal will freeze at minus 20? [When I got mine filled had done a search on here I believe, and kinda maybe figured 5 gal to each tire with water would keep it from freezing down to well below zero, and thats about 1/7 or so.] .Your going to make me do another search.[Not saying anyone would put pure methinal in their tires!]

Speaking of methinal,I would be more worried about the effects it could have on the tire itself, supposed to be none, but[and mines filled with methinal],don't believe it will ever hurt the rim,but wouldn't bet you the same with tire in say 20 years. Will let you know in 20 years.

Yeah, beet juice is heavier, thats the only thing I'm convinced of so far,[but always willing to learn]

Pure methanol freezes at around -140 F, but there would be no point in putting pure meth in a tire due to the insignificant weight gain.

I agree, I would worry more about it hurting the tire rather than the rim.
