Thanks Neil. I'm pretty sure I checked all 4 tires. If a wheel was turning in sand it will dig itself in and spray sand everywhere (pretty hard to miss), I'm all to familiar with that.

No offense but no you aren't familiar with spraying sand on a BX:) At 8mph top speed you ain't gonna spray sand....

It doesn't seem anybody asked him how hard he was pushing the pedal when he was trying to get more power. More pedal=higher gear=less power. Did I miss something?

Thanks !!! Maybe that was the problem and what I need to get used to. I was pushing the pedal hard. I thought more pedal was more "engaged" (less slippage). I thought the only "gearing" was High and Low.

I think that explains it. I had the pedal to the floor. Turned hard to the right which used some power for steering and climed up hill in the sand.

What's a little confusing was when I was backing it up into barn there is a good 4 inch step it hasto go up.

I was going easy on the pedal and it wasn't going. Finally I stepped on it and the boards under it kicked out and then it climbed a 6 inch step in stead of 4 (because the boards were now gone).

So I guess there must be a curve that is shaped like and upside down U. A really light touch didn't seem to fully engage. A modest touch will fully engage and go slow with high torque. And heavy touch will be fully engaged but low torque.

I can't wait to get back on it and experiment now.

I've taken my with a FEL and BH up some very steep hills, so steep in fact that I had to brace myself with my leg and steering wheel to just stay in the seat. Of course I was going very slow, but it had no problem, other than a little traction issue.

The 24 isn't a super tractor, but it will get the work done, you just have to use a bit of ingunity (ok the spelling is wrong, but I still was able to graduate) and patience.

Also, I wouldn't use high range unless you are on the road, espeically if you have a load. Besides, I don't know about you but my kidneys can only take so much abuse.

2) Wow this thing is fast !! With it throttle up in high gear going up hill, I hit a little bump in the road and It felt like it caught air. It was like a little dune buggy
2*hitting bumps or low places on a hill at high speed is the perfect combination for a roll over. >>

I keep my BX23 in low range 99.95% of the time.

3*7) Digging out trees sucks. I found the tractor can't rip out much but it can get it clear enough to cut. I think I created at least 3 weekends of hand finish work in 5 hours.
4* But when I lifted it to put on trailer one of the root balls landed right on my shinny new hood. ****.
5*12) Couple times I just wanted to move the tractor a foot while using the back hoe. I didn't want to flip the seat around and back (flipping the seat gets old).
6*13) I keep snagging my coat on the Back Hoe controls. Dangerous !! I'll have to wear a baseball jacket or something.
7*Yeah I had been putting the FEL down for stability and gotta try keeping it up so I can use the back hoe to creep it. I did do that a couple times later on.
8*Would it be bad to keep the bucket up so I can creep it with hoe or do you raise the buck it each time?
9*Thanks !!! Maybe that was the problem and what I need to get used to. I was pushing the pedal hard. I thought more pedal was more "engaged" (less slippage). I thought the only "gearing" was High and Low.

3*It don't if you know how to use the BH and go about it.
4*Ya don't lift the loader to high or roll bucket to far back when you have anything in the bucket that could roll off or spill out.
5*I don't flip the seat to move the tractor.
I just lift the bucket and stabilizers a couple of inches and place an 18''1x2 on the treadle petal while holding the other end with my left hand.
6*You just have to be careful about that when getting on and off and moving around.
That's why I never operate the tractor in the summer time with my shirt tail out.
8*You need to keep the bucket down on the ground for stability when digging with the Bh and only lift FEL slightly to move the tractor.
:)
