That was the way it was explained to me about more gas, less torque. I guess it doesn't shift internally the same as you're used to in a car.
It takes some getting used if you never had one before. I got about 30 hours on mine. It does have a few weak points, but as far as a tractor goes, it will get the job done. Just like with anything else, it just takes time to use properly.
There is a lot of useful information on this site, more than I ever thought possible. I've already learned not to screw up some things by reading what others have done. But I have still managed to hit a tree when cutting grass when the FEL was on. BTW, you're better off with all the attachments off when cutting grass. It is a lot easier, and not as bouncy. One good bounce can send you rolling.
