With just a few hours of use the unassisted SLDA and foot treadle are working more smoothly and just like Jack said they should be working. The grass was dry, but ground wet and soft so I got to work on my gentle touch today. Also experimented with various levels of weight transfer and the big mower I think I will just use the top or next to top setting routinely.

I second (or third) the idea that JackIl is a fountain of knowledge ! You will want to run the Ventrac without the assist on and will want to always have hand or foot (or both) on the controls - some people do not opt for the foot control and I don't use it much, but when I want it (or need it) it is great. The SDLA becomes second nature.
