Dealer New York Dealers!

All costs considered, I save $500+ by buying local, even though I had to pay sales tax. But no shipping, same week delivery and a dealer that's been fantastic with followup and how to info.

Re: I just bought in CT

Dan, I believe the zipcode is 06798 (or 06748). I dont know how up to date the kubota website is. Tolles equip (in CT) is listed there and I heard they aren`t in business anymore.

Dan I just looked at your Bio (will have to fill mine out soon). I see that you are a software engineer. That`s what my wife does (embedded systems) some pretty interesting stuff sometimes. (sometimes quite boring also /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif)

I've had really good luck with Carver with the little things that come up. What I am dreading is if I need warranty work done, I'm not quite sure what I'll do. Carver is only 4 hrs away so I guess I would lean toward taking it back there. It's just that I don't have a trailer.....yet. I would sure like to have a local dealer that I liked. We do have a dealer on the north side of Charlotte, but I never checked there. I was so ticked about what happened at the closest dealer after looking for weeks, I just wanted it done. Carver was the easiest and quickest for me. He also informed me that I probably didn't need weights with the loader frame and that I would probably prefer R4's. He was right on both counts. The front weight question to the first dealer just resulted in confused answer and they never did suggest a tire type for my needs. Definately a sharp contrast to how others here have described how their purchase went.

We may have a deal for you if you don't mind traveling. We have recently traded in a B2710 from our local dentist. It was delivered 12-29-99 so it has warranty until 12-29-02. 140 hrs., turf tires, RCK60-27B mower deck. We could put a loader on (Kubota LA402) for $17,200. we are in NE Iowa but this could be worth the trip. Gary D.

Your right about certain NY state dealers and their unwillingness to quote a reasonable price. I live in the Binghamton/Johnson City area. Before I had any tractor savy I bought a b7100 locally about nine years ago from the greediest kubota dealer in the US. I would'nt even recommend them to Bin Ladin. They took advantage of me to the tune of $600. Its my fault for not shopping around or researching the product however that does not excuse them for ripping unsuspecting people off. As a result thier greed cost them future business.
[Since then I bought a bigger tractor(cub cadet 7275),loader,snow blower, rear blade bus hog and maintaince supplies.] In other words there are unscrupulous dealers that prey upon the naive. They go for the big score and laugh about how they got over on a "customer" and made a few hundred extra never realizing that by playing fair they could have gained thousands in sales in the long run. Check out Whites Farm Supply near Utica. I contemplated a tractor change last and year and Art W. was very fair on the price and my trade. He seems to be the exception.

It's not just in New York. When I bought my '95 B7100, I got prices from 4 different dealers without telling any of them what price other dealers had quoted. However, the nearest dealer to my home said he'd sell me the tractor at his cost (he was trying to get me to sell him a motorhome real cheap). When I asked him how much, the amount he quoted as being his "cost" was higher than any of the other 3 dealers' asking price. And when I told him 3 other dealers had offered to sell me one for less, he started screaming and yelling at me, like a maniac, and said, "You didn't tell me you were shopping around!" There are lunatics in every business, and in every part of the country.

Jeff,

I know the dealer in Charlotte. That's where i bought my tractor. They have been in buisness for a long time. (1950's, early 60's) They have been above board on every question that i have had. The name of the dealer is Charlotte Tractor.
They sell Kubota and New Holland and have dealerships in Mooresville, Greensboro and I believe Winston Salem. Good luck and hope you never need any warranty work done.

Re: I just bought in CT

I agree the work varies quite a bit but it is for the most part interesting.

I think I'm gonna give your CT Dealer a call. I'm hoping to buy just after the new year. I'm looking at BX2200 or B7500 with FEL & 60"MMM The CT dealer is about 1.5 hours away.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: I just bought in CT

I'm also in the Syracuse NY area and looked local first. Dealer offered me list price, then reduced it to list price! That dealer has since gone belly up so turned out to be a moot point for warranty work anyhow. (Actually two years later there hasn't BEEN any warranty work!!) I bought from Carver (new) and was very happy and still am. Lack of tax more than made up for shipping (about $1K) and the price was good. My first choice would always be local just to support the local guy. I wouldn't even mind paying a little more and stay local but we were talking about $2500 difference - I don't think so!! One thing I did find after looking for a used one - like pick up trucks compacts seem to hold their value so well it made more sense to spend a few thousand more and get a brand new one than get a used one.

I know the dealer ajax speaks of, I can also assure you I have sent much business elsewhere because of their attitude and pricing

n.y does not have the only greedy dealers, we have one here in southern new hampshire that has two locations and they are almost 3k over carver (3710 hst. w/681 fel, r4's $22500.00) it is very frustrating not to be able to buy local, they will not budge off list, at least that was my experience

Re: New York Dealers & any Dealer...

...it is very frustrating not to be able to buy local, they will not budge off list, at least that was my experience...

Excuse me for being redundant, but I'll say it again...

Get the quotes from some distant dealers, have your model already decided and with checkbook in hand or a deposit in your pocket and you’re serious about buying…

Now, go visit your local dealer, with a smile on your face,{ you're in person and not on the phone}, you're there to conduct business and now are ready to buy, you've done your shopping and pricing, now you want to actually buy...

It helps 1000% to have that unit sitting on the dealer's lot, something he already owns, something he has an interest in moving and not have to order from the factory or another dealer, that smile on your face and the attitude you carry will have a major bearing on the outcome, remember this dealer has a family and bills waiting at home also...

You can wish for the moon and then some, but have realistic expectations, you're not going to buy below his cost unless he fell out of bed and smashed his head that morning, he's in business to make money, he should be expected to make a reasonable profit, he has to - to survive, he needs good customers, again he needs not one but many customers to keep going, he doesn't want you to walk out that door, the dealer truly wants your business, the dealer doesn't want "the business"...

When you sit down and show some real quotes, you're halfway home... do you still have the smile on your face and is your attitude still positive... that's the other half... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Try the guys at Salem Farm Equipment just above Hoosick Falls, not that far from the Hudson Valley. The price on my M-5700 was about 3 grand less than I got anywhere else. The price was as good as Carver and they filled the tires with calcium and threw in a 3 pt. bar.

If you're talking about Pinnacle View, I agree. Check out
Salem Equipment on the other side of Vermont. After going
back to PV and telling them the price I got straight up from
Salem, they weren't the least bit interested coming down about 3 grand.
