Tractor
allis d 17/ case 930, 1370/ kubota L5740
Besides getting a; before price increase quote on a tractor, how much less would a person expect to pay if the tractor had been on the lot for a year and a half? I know the tractor would still be considered new but I would think it would still already be considered one or two years old.

Not in my experience. Tractors aren't quite like an automobile. If it is current model, still showing up on the maker's website, it is considered new. The dealers sometimes discount a bit to move old stock, it is considered new until it put into service. Obviously, there' s limit to such thinking and somewhere around 18 months to two years is pushing it.

How many hours are on the meter?

Is it a popular model? or is it one that they are replacing (like the L3400/L2800)?

Was told as far as mfg. was concerned the date the tractor was sold was the year of the tractor. Would hate to be told if I tried to sell it that I had an older tractor than I was lead to believe. If I got it cheaper initially I would be okay with it then.

Pretty sure it had less than 5 hours on it and it is a current model. Dealer told me that recently most of his sales had been less expensive models or cabbed versions of the one I am looking at

Some dealers move stuff fast, pipelining them very quickly from distribution center to customer, only rarely having a tractor sit for a year or so. But, there are other dealers, that I observe, that don't seem to have that knack. These dealer's stock ages and moves slowly.

If the machine was current, and didn't look all faded, ugly and rusted? If it looked good physically? If I got a stunning price on it? What they heck would I care? Not one bit. But, that's just me.

From that day on, it would be kept safe and secure in my shop where it would be pampered, washed, waxed and never, ever driven in dirt or dust and only used on Sunday's for parades. :D:D

The tractor looks like it just showed up I wouldn't have guessed it was that old if the dealer hadn't told me. Just didn't know if not paying 1 price increase was enough.

You've not stated the make and model. With that information, lots of folks can help you discover whether the dealer's quote is fair. Generally, if your brand has MSRP on their website, you can deduct 10-12% for a good price.

It has been my experience that if the model is over 18 months you can expect the discounts stated. Last year I bought a new 87 HP model that was sitting on a dealer lot for three years. I figured it was discounted 20% and I am very happy. It had faded controls which were replaced and the seat didn't last long but it came with a complete factory warranty from day one.

I just bought a L5740 similar to the way the one you are looking at is set up. That seems like a fair deal. I would estimate it at about 12% below last years prices (there was an increase in March). You might poke at what you could get him to throw in to sweeten the deal. After all, you are trying to help him out on some slow moving stock. I Think filled tires or implement discounts might be pretty achievable.

Looked at kubota web site and came up with a list price of $37200 so 12% off would be around $32500 or around $500 more than they were asking. What were the % increase on kubotas in april? I was thinking that dealer told me on the 5740 if this one wasn't available a new one would be around $1200 to $1500 more.

One of the dealers on TBN can probably give a more exact answer on the price increase but I remember it being about 4% which equates to about $1250 here.

Your estimate using the build your kubota app would be more accurate than mine. I made some assumptions on how it was equipped. I assumed:

ROPS
HST
4WD
1 float detent remote
FEL
Quick attach
Std QA bucket

That priced at $37550 MSRP. The QA adds a few hundred but its AWESOME. Totally worth it in my eyes. Regardless, the deal seems to be fair, and if you can get some goodies tacked on there I would call it a pretty good one. Good luck in your negotiations. :)

Good to know that the price isn't to far off, went to look at an mx5100 but the 5740 sure was nice, really liked the auto throttle advance and the joystick location . Still looking at a kioti and mahindra tractor but still haven't convinced myself that in the future I will be able to walk in and get parts when needed from those two brands. I wish kubota had a tractor between the 5100 and 5740 because the 5100 isn't the tractor I want, just don't know if I can justify spending around seven thousand more for the 5740 and kubota's reputation.

Have you looked into a L5240? That's a couple thousand less than the L5740. It's kind of middle ground (sort of). :)

Asked dealer about a smaller tractor but since the 5740 is an older tractor it was priced just a few hundred more than the next size down
