I've been looking for a used 6 inch commercial chipper... I missed a very good older Brush Bandit 65 last month and negotiating right now on a well used Vermeer BC620.
I'm afraid I need either a bigger tractor or one of the trailer mounted chippers to get 6 inch capacity.

Too high. I was quoted $3599 (not including shipping, which would be about $200) for the BXM42, and $2699 for the BXM32. IMO you're either being ripped off, or the guy has excess overhead.

I have a BXM32 (3") and am very pleased with it so far, although I have only used it once. Easy to open up to get at the chipper knives. It chewed up some very dense buckthorn with ease. The shedder section is not quick but is very thorough. The only thing I'd be concerned about at this point is a shorter person using it. They might find it awkward getting material to be shredded up into that hopper.

Strad - How well does the chipper work for larger material, i.e., when you get close to the 3" limit? Does it bog down at all, does it tend to pull in the material reasonably smoothly and well, or do you have to "force feed" it, for example.
I would also welcome for any other info you might want to share. I am very seriously considering buying this unit, but haven't seen any user posts yet that give me a good feel for how well it works compared, say, to the older BX42.

Keep in mind I'm coming from a 3", 8.5 Craftsman chipper and other such things. I have never used one of the larger commercial chippers.
The tractor and chipper are new so I did not even have the tractor at full throttle and the chipper took care of the buckthorn, which is rather dense and was near 3" in diameter quite nicely. At full throttle my tractor has 17.7 hp. I was using it at about 70%.
I did not have to push in anything but some of the very angular branches with lots of side branches into the chipper. It self fed fine but I would not expect it to feed quite as well when the blades have some wear on them. I found it to be very easy to use and a much more useful 3" capacity than what I was used to. My previous chipper has a 3" square opening at the end of a long narrow chute. The chute on this chipper is shorter and has much larger openings at both ends. If you look at the specs you'll see that the chipper housiing opening is 3"x6". This makes it a heck of a lot more useful than 3x3.
Decent, simple, robust quality. The paint is not great but OK. I was spending a lot of money and it was the one accessory that I thought about not getting when I purchased the tractor. After using it once for a half hour I have NO regrets. The chipper blades are quite easy to get to to service. It was easy to hook up and use (my first 3PH attachment of anything). I made a dolly for so I could move it around the garage when it's off.
I'll write more once I've used it again..., which should be soon.

After reading and reading, I bought the BXM42. Thanks Stradbash for your review of the BXM332. I was going to get the BX42, but I wanted the shredder capability. Finally got some time to use the chipper today and chewed up everything I could fit into it, mostly pine. With one of the heavier flywheel, my tractor did not bog down any chewing up the 4" logs (23HP at the PTO). Like Stradbash, I didn't have to use it at full throttle (1500 tractor RPM). I think the BX42 would have worked fine for me too, because the chipper would feed the smaller branch and twigs pretty easy. Side note...I'm not all that tall 5' even and did not have any problem with the shredder hopper.
