Hi folks. I recently acquired a used low hour 2638 HST TLB. Some of our property developments are a bit more intensive that I wanted to do with hand tools and what I had, thus the TLB.
I already have a interest in acquiring a couple of attachments to help with my project bucket list. Forks, Grapple, maybe a landscape rake, hyd. thumb and a box blade come to mind for the time being.

I'll be doing projects near central MN.

Welcome to TBN and I haven't seen someone their Zipcode as the location very clever, The 2638 is a good sized tractor - post some pics when you have a moment.

There are a lot of good ideas to add attachments - like adding a Hyd Thumb with a solenoid vs a mechanical thumb and so on. Then it will be the third function for a grapple on the front which make it much more versatile machine.

My 2638 TLB is in transport, I should have it in the next day or 2.

If a PDF of the factory service manual is available and could be shared it would be much appreciated. A pm with the manual or where it is available would be very helpful.

I want to go over this from end to end as I'm not sure how well it was maintained prior to my acquisition, and I am a very hands on type of owner.

Welcome aboard! I'm also kinda new here. I work for Evernote—remotely—from my little farm in the countryside, and honestly, I love it. Living surrounded by nature gives me peace, and it’s pretty cool that I can still use my technical skills to make a decent living without having to leave this beautiful place. Looking forward to connecting with like-minded folks here

I've put just over 40 hours on it so far. Mostly doing property maintense items. Some backhoe use, anda good bit of landscaping dirt moving.

I acquired forks and have modified them by adding a 2" receiver. I've got a 8k winch that is mounted on a 2" tube and plate, and of course moving trailers around is easy with the setup.

I'm noticing that my tractor has a tick(kinda lifter sounding), that is very noticable immediatly after starting, however it does quiet slightly during the initial warnup, but is still loud IMO.

I did a oil change using T5 15w-40 but didn't notice any perceviable improvement.

I'm in need of a service manual that includes the engine (preferably the entire tractor) to start doing some investigation as to what the actual problem is. I'm not on FB, and am not likely to ever be there.

The ticking noise in a diesel is likely injector related - you can try some diesel additive to see if that helps - or use some automatic transmission fluid to the fuel too. This will quiet the injector noise. I had a mercedes diesel with ATF added to fuel quieted the injector noise - added maybe 4 oz to a full tank 15 gal.

What's the procedure for checking and setting injector timing?

I don't know exactly, and unless its causing issues I would not mess with that, I know there are guys that turn them up for more HP. All I was getting at with the ticking is its normal to get "injector knock" and ATF or additives quiet it down.
