I'm a recently-retired engineer (unfortunately, not mechanical :)) and am in the market for a reliable riding mower (lawn tractor) for a 1-acre lot with a significant grade. I have burned up a couple of hydrostatic drives in the past on that hill, so I'm leery about buying another one. That said, I have been looking at new John Deere models and all but one have hydro drives. I was considering the X300 and decided to research the K46 transmission and found a very good thread on here regarding rebuilds. Great thread!

Ever consider a commercial zero turn mower .The low center of gravity seems to work well for me.( EXmark Scag Ferris John Deere)
