Another wet boring day, so I added a light to rear. Kubota puts the beacon switch and all the wiring in and mounts for the beacon and regular lights out back. On the rear I like to use the beacon light for rear lighting as its on its own switch. The kx040 just had the beacon and one rear light, the u48 has the beacon and 2 rear lights. 1 is enough for me. The mounting bolts are there you just have to fab up a mount.

Nicely done with the grab hook and LED light addition. It looks like you’ve got two sets of auxiliary hydraulics on the new machine, is that just how the unit came in or did you request that option for another attachment you want to add? I’ve got the dual remotes also, use both of them for a rotating limb shear I designed and built and also for a tilt bucket that I just got last December. You’re bigger tracks and frame really looks like it should be a big improvement from the 40. I appreciate your insights into the kubota’s.

This machine was a stock order, the dealer just ordered it that way I guess. BUT, it does open up the ability for a mulched or mower. That line is a full 1”, where as the thumb hydraulic is smaller so I think kubota is making higher flow available for attachments.

First full day at work. Couple of things, the ac is ridiculously cold. It was 95f today and I had to turn it down. There is way more room in the cab. Vision is great, but one thing I have to get used to is digging over the bigger longer blade. It sticks forward a lot more than the 040. There is a sweet spot and for me the blade obscures it a bit, so I move the blade to the side. You can dig over the rear of the tracks with the blade down since the tracks stick out more and Ill probably start doing that on my deep sewers. I didnt find that out til digging water line.

As you can see the blade stick way out.

if you never seen a sewer tap, this is what you looking for. After digging up thousands I‘ve learned to feel them with the bucket and kubota excavators are great for feeling stuff wile your digging…

Here it is hooked up

I also get in the foundations sometimes to dig in the trunk lines. The concrete guys hate us for this but on big slabs I’m not hand digging all of it. We still hand dig branches but but having the trunk close buy and deep helps.

Anyways, it was a very good upgrade. Tomorrow I have a much deeper sewer, 8’ deep, so we will see how the digging angle is. It digs within a few inches of the 040 but the boom bends different and that cuts down the straight wall at max depth. All though this has a longer reach. 4” less dig depth and 8” more reach.

Still trying to find the camera kit.

I like digging over the back side unless I’m doing something that requires the stability of having blade forward. It’s definitely in the way for regular digging that doesn’t require the extra stability of having it forward. I also like to haul mine with the bucket flat on the trailer. It’s not over height doing it that way and also doesn’t knock holes in the deck which I assume was the point of your block under it. Which series bucket does the U48 use?

the u48 uses the 057 bucket. Its got the 057 thumb too. The bucket, the undercarriage and hydro system is from the 057/u55 and the motor and digger is closer to 040. The cab of the 040 will probably match the u48 after it goes to the -5 series. Yea that rubber pad keeps the deck from being chewed up by the linkage. I started carrying it boom down to try to cut down on the grease on the windshield. I used Schaeffear 238 on last excavator and probably greased to much, that and the 238 does not go away. Using the recommended shell Gladus s3 v220, which is a lithium complex. The Schaefer is aluminum complex. Heavy, sticky, and stringy. But messy.

Another day of digging yesterday.graveling sewers with a 2’ bucket is painful. Takes forever. I’ve order the quick attach ears so I can make another 5’ gravel bucket. I gravel ditch before I put pipe in and after. Takes forever with digging bucket.

good idea a gravel bucket, the thing I find with the mini ex buckets they typically have no depth to them so volume is low, compared to my Cat loader backhoe with a 24 inch bucket it will scoop at least 5 times the volume compared to my ex

I made a gravel bucket for my 040 but didn’t fit the 48 so I sold it. Getting stuff to make another.

thats a nice job, I have the 36 inch clean out bucket with the angle swivel adaptor for the E32, find its a handy bucket for gravel and as I can angle it works great for grading especially if the ex is not sitting on level ground

recently I made up a couple adaptors that allows me to attach a bucket backwards, that is nice back filling as you work aawy from the machine
