Welcome, I would go back and give them two options. 1. Produce my old starter so I can possibly have it rebuilt. 2. Produce one just like it.
I'll second that.....just because it was fried doesn't mean they have to right to throw away personal property that didn't belong to them. They are liable for that property, functioning or not. I somewhat agree with the two choices....produce the one you brought in or produce a new one. PERIOD.
