Hey, I need a little help. I am a rookie tractor owner and dealer did not show me all I needed to know. I have a G3038 worth front loader, backhoe, shedder, post hole auger, and box blade. My problem is that I can't figure out how to connect the PTO to the shredder? It has a push button lock but no room to find out how to slide it on???

You have to line up the splines and push it on until the button locks in the groove. Can be really hateful until you get the hang of it. New PTO shaft and a new tractor makes for a tight fit sometimes also. I had to de-burr the shoulder of the output shaft on mine a little as well.

Thanks for the quick response. It explains what I thought I knew! LOL I tried both sides but if you are familiar with the LS it has a metal shroud over the PTO output and there is a plastic cover over the PTO input on the shredder. I turned the PTO on and off several times to try to align but never quiet got it I guess. The shredder is on the three point already. I will try cleaning the shaft and knocking off any burrs I see on both sides. I wasn't ready to shred yet and was just using the shredder as a counter weight so I could load several large rock columns I am taking to our new place in the country that will be used to define the drive way into the new house.

Thanks again and I am sure I will be back. I still have an auger to figure out as well. Good to know others are out here!

Keeping the tractor OFF, raise you shredder, then you can reach under and turn the blade(s) which will turn the shaft until you get it to line up. much easier with the auger also. It would help the first time to have someone else turn it while you are working the locking mechanism. Hope this helps and congrats on the new tractor.

I just turn the PTO shaft it isn't that hard, or at least none of mine are.

I went out this morning and checked the inside of the shaft for paint. Cleaned both the splines output and input. leveled the shredder and it was easier to turn the shaft to try to line it up. However, I worked AT it for an hour before I gave up. the tractor has a shroud and the shaft has a plastic cover that makes it virtually impossible to see what you are doing and line the shaft and output up. I am going to try to clean off the output shaft for possible burrs and get my better half to come help. Might make a difference. I may even count splines one more time to be sure they match. I have never had this much problem with a PTO before. But, never had an LS either. Glad I didn't need to shred today. I was just picking up rock columns and putting them on the trailer to move to the new farm for defining the driveway up to the house.

Ok I understand that your getting frustrated, but there isn't any sense in you getting down on the tractor you and the tractor have a long relationship ahead of you, try this. Disconnect the mower and drive the tractor away from the mower, grab the PTO shaft and slid the tractor half off of the mower half. With the two half separated you should have enough room to slide the PTO shaft on the tractor. This way you will know that (if) the two fit together and you will have a feel as to how that happens, you may need to apply a very light film of oil or grease to the two pieces but remember that oil or grease are a dust/dirt magnet. If they don't fit together there has to be a reason but there are way to many LS owners that do not have this problem so I wouldn't think it was the tractors problem. The shield is a safety item and I know that it is a PITA I have the same thing, older tractors didn't have them and they seemed to work just fine and there is only 4 bolts that hold it on that is all I will say about it. I remember back about a year or so another complaint about an LS shaft where the OP was blaming the LS tractor as having a metric PTO shaft and it wouldn't work with his implement PTO shaft, well it turned out that that was reversed and the tractor was fine for what it is worth. Sit back take a long breath it'll be fine! :thumbsup:

I havent ever had a problem hooking up a pto. I even owned a Belarus and that was the biggest piece of junk if there ever was. I havent looked at my new one yet but most of them I have ever seen have a spot in the spline you have to line up. With the tractor off you should be able to grab the pto on the tractor and turn it by hand(that was mentioned) line it up...slide it on.

I'm not sure that you need anymore help but just in case I offer these hints:

1. The implement shaft has a little button on it that serves to lock the PTO shaft on the tractors PTO shaft ---- you need to press it in and hold it in while you're hooking the two together. Once you have the implement shaft fully on the tractor shaft, release the button and pull the implement shaft back and you will feel it lock in place.

2. Visually, the implement coupling and the tractor shaft need to be "in line" -----------

3. As Guesseral offers, You should be able to rotate the implement shaft a few degrees "counterclockwise" to match up the splines ----------

I wanted to get back to you and let you know that this worked perfectly. I found one of my rat tail files and went to work. Married up the PTO and shaft on shredder and went to work. LOL found out quick how to fix the flats from the mesquite thorns too. I took my back hoe attachment off and now can't get the hydraulic lines reconnected. Any suggestions?
