Grant,This is Sadie, the big Ham.She's about a year old and just starting to get her Tan color, although she will remain mostly black.Whenever someone picks up the camera, she thinks we're out to take pictures of her.The Shepherd is a great dog,I doubt if we'll ever be without one.

Nice looking Shepherd, Here is a pic of Madison. She passed away a few weeks ago. I echo your thoughts that Shepherds are great dogs. She was the most loyal/protective dog I ever had. I haven't found a new German Shepherd yet, but I will!

Mike, would you mind posting the make and sizes of your front and rear tires. I've been researching tire options for Grand L's.

I, too, have a German Shepard--Max, the stickaholic. Sorry about your loss, Mark.

Paul,These are definately a finish mower.I have ran over some grass that was about a foot tall, but had to make two passes to really "clean" it up.I have the mower set to cut at 3-1/2" and run through 5"-7" grass with no problems.

Glenn,The front tires are Goodyear Soft Tracs,29x12.50-15 The rear tires are Firestone R-3,Field/Turf,21.5L-16.1. These tires are mounted on Kubota rims and offered as an option.I can't tell you for sure of the cost,I think around 200.-400. Our tractor was priced as a package including a dual spool hydraulic hook up.

Re: Mark in Minn.

Mark,

What was the supposed reason for the killings? Have you guys gotten another GSD? To my wife and I, they are the perfect example of what a dog should be. We will always have one around.

Re: Mark in Minn.

Came home from work, and they were gone. Called and called. They never left the place with out me before. Had a fresh dusting of snow during the day so i picked up there tracks in the driveway and followed them down the township road to the corner and the headed north on the county road towards the neighborsabout 1/2 mile.(noticed that they did not once stop to pee on any snow banks. Just tracks down the center of the road) Got to the neighbors driveway and there they went! Neighbor not home. Saw that he had shoveled his driveway kinda funny,(little here, little there whole lot different places) Climbed over snowbank into undisturbed snow off driveway saw specks of blood! I went home. Wife came home so we got in the pickup and i showed her what i had found. Neighbor was home by then out in the drive way. Rolled down window and he said "hey old man hows it going?" I ask: "Hey,Leon, Did you see our dogs today? He said "No I aint seen no dogs today".I said "I followed their tracks over here and you didnt get all the blood cleaned up"He said " well yeah"..... Big mistake! My poor wife(Diane) just came apart! Crying, she gets out the passenger door, runs around the truck and gets in his face, pointing at him saying "I thought you were our freind. He cant stand that a woman is chewing him out(shes actually cryingand yelling) He grabs her and pushes her against the pickup.By this time Im out of the pickup and get between them and say, "Oh no, this aint going to happen"! and put her back in the truck. Then he says they were chasing deer! UBU, the older dog had been run over earlier in the year and had a back injury (had a hard time walking much less running) and the snow was thigh deep(about 3') No deer tracks any where. and I told him that! Then he starts taking off his coveralls and he going to "settle this right here and now"!(Hes going to beat me up!) This guys got about 40lbs and 3"s on me and a reputation for being a bully. Sure felt like teaching him a thing or two but I work with the public and I dont need a lot of questions about black eyes and such. Besides, he'd probably sue me being on his land and all. So i catch Diane again (she,s already out the passenger door again and comming around the truck again) put her back in the truck and left. He's still hurling insults and threats about what will happen to us if we call the sheriff. Diane says "Iwant those dogs"! I back up and say I want the dogs. He had them hidden in his silo I suppose untill dark so no one would see him when he dumps them. My poor UBU. Loved to go for rides with me to town cause Id always share acouple peices of beef jerky with him. Beautiful brown eyes...one hanging out cause he'd been shot in the head.....choke..... sorry Wal..to answer your questionn, We have 2 new ones(german shepards) names are Johan ( Yo- han) and Wolfgang.(longhaird shepard)

Re: Mark in Minn.

I know what it's like having a misfit living near me. I own beagles and they will sometimes cross the road chasing bunnies and cross the jerks yard that lives across from me. They come out and start shooting, so far they havn't hit one yet. I went over the last time and let them know how low I think they are and told them the next time they start shooting the sheriff is going to be called. I had my best male "Mo" run over in the road a few months back and I'll bet they were the ones that hit him, no skid marks in the gravel road and he was almost off the road, and he never moved from the spot where he was hit. Mo was a state champion and liked everybody he met, I still miss that hound. I just don't understand how some people can be that cruel and crazy to shoot a dog just because it is on or near their property. The sheriff said he can shoot any dog that comes onto his property if he claims he felt threatened,(threatened by a 13" tall beagle???) but if he is shooting across the road then that's another matter and he would come and adress that. The guy does shoot across the road, and the next time the sheriff is going to pay him a visit.

Re: Mark in Minn.

Joe, I saw a post here that someone had written,"You can judge a mans heart by his treatment of animals". How true, How true.......

Re: Mark in Minn.

Hi. I am sorry to hear that, that dumb@ass did that. When I was reading that message I got so mad. I can't even begin to fathom what it was like for you. I had a former "relative" that was that way. He had guns and could be real nasty. Even kept a sawed off 12 guage in the trunk of his car. Came to my place with it once, too. He was married to my niece for less than a year. He shot up her car, destroyed her belongings, and killed her animals. They had much more than just dogs. They had different birds, including two emus. One died; the other we managed to save. When I hear about animal cruelty like that, it really makes me mad. Again, I am sorry to hear about your dogs. Sadie looks like a cool dog. My former "relative" had a German Shephard. Said it drank antifreeze, but I think he shot it, like everything else. Also, your tractor looks real cool. If I had something like that here I could be done cutting grass in less than 15 minutes. lol

Re: Mark in Minn.

Mark,

I am very sorry to hear that story. What a heart breaking situation.

Your a better man than me. I don't know what I would have done if one of my neighbors shot my lab.

Thanks guys, There is a lot more to the story about this guy, but i should put it on patricks post about sociopathic neighbors. Walter, the all black shepard, was ten mos old and weighed 110lbs. I spent 6wks, an hour every night, training him. Its amazing that trainability is bred so well into these dogs' bloodline! But UBU was exceptional! I could go through 25 dogs and never find another like him! Have had people tell me of time they came to our place when we were not home and did not attemt getting out their vehicle for the terror displayed by this beautiful animal, unless, of course he recognised you. Then , the ears were laid down with a smile and tail wag. One time, the neighbor's hogs escaped and showed up at our place.( not the same neighbor) UBU happened to be on "duty". I heard the commotion from in side the house and came out to see a pitched battle betwwen UBU and a large tusked boar(there was also three sows) He evidently intercepted them before they got to our garden. I ran out to help yelling at the boar. He did not back down but turned at me! UBU turned him back drawing blood! Courageous and steadfast, yet, he would nuzzle my grandparents' hands or play gently with my little nieces. sorry, im rambling........ Hillbilly, are you thinking of breeding them? Going rate up here is $250 and up! (for pups) P.S. still waiting on my tractor.Last i heard the were still waiting on the ag wheels. How long did you wait on yours? thanks again guys

Re: Mark in Minn.

Mark, It sounds trite, I know, but I really do "feel your pain." Perspective is a terrible thing to lose as your "neighbor" obvioulsy has. Some folks can't/don't differentiate between can and should. In many rural areas you can shoot ANY dog on your property, period, and you don't have to explain squat to anyone. Discression is at the volition of the property owner. Many of the nicest folks I know would shoot any dog on their place, theirs included, if it chased stock or did mischief above a "certain" level. Your neighbor apparently has no discretion and did confuse can with should. At a minimum, since he wasn't being harmed by you or yours, he should have warned you. Not required by law but common decency unless a dog was doing something destructive right then and couldn't be detered with sub-lethal force. It just flat irritates me to have jerks like that who so easily spoil the peace of the country.

On the bright side, Mark, he could have actually filed charges on at least your wife for assault and battery. Seems ridiculous, I know, but it seems to go with the territory. When you find someone like your neighbor who would do what he did, I mean the whole scene, lies, attitude, deceit, etc. are often part of the package. The guy ain't right!
Take care with the replacement animals as it would not be surprising to find that he would do it again or not even wait for an animal to tresspass and might take a shot or toss a poisoned piece of meat onto your or other adjacent property. Cyanide bombs such as are used by pros to exterminate coyote will kill a dog in a single breath and unfortunately seem to be available to the demented bozos with the will to kill.

Sorry this wasn't a real uplifting, feel good message but if it keeps y'all from a similar repeat, it is worth saying.

Patrick
